I like white at home because that's what it was when I was growing up.

Yea I'm expecting at least the entire season being wiped out. Speaking of Glendale, I'm sure the Cardinals starting 3-0 isn't helping out the Coyotes fan base.
-
I remember during the 1994-95 Lockout the PA had a tournament at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton Ontario, Yzerman was there. I even got Roenick to sign my hat.
-
I'll be honest, I'd vote Yzerman every time.

Report: NHL may cancel Winter Classic by November if no CBA deal
Barrie replied to a topic in General
Who cares? Two times I had a chance to get Winter Classic tickets, and I declined both times. My main reason was not wanting to deal with trying to get a refund if the game get cancelled. Also I figured instead of a refund they'd only give me tickets toward future games, and I'd rather get my money back. Do people even care about the lockout? Most of my friends think the entire thing is a big joke, point out that the league grew $1 billion since the last lockout, and the owners still want more. Bettman better take this serious, because this is going to do some real big damage to the League. The longer this goes, the more pressure it is on the owners, and the players know it. Fehr isn't is a rush to get something done and I support him 100%. -
I have no interest in watching replacement players. I think you can tell from my posts I support the players. I always support the players, because I don't go to games to watch the owners, plus all the owners care about is profits.
-
Probably it's because Bettman is so arrogant and stubborn that's he's not worth trying to talk sense to. I heard someone on TSN radio say that a deal would probably get done if Bettman was told to leave the room. Edit: Fehr has said he's not trying to get rid of the cap, he just wants to see the Owners revenue share and find better ways to generate revenue.
-
Agree. The owners need to either get rid of the Floor, revenue share with bankrupt teams, or move the bankrupt teams to better hockey markets (if they want to continue under the current system). The Players don't have to give an inch. I heard Forbes said the Leafs could pay Phoenix's entire debt and still be the richest team in the League. Obviously this isn't the Players fault. With fans and media on the Players side this time around, the longer this goes, the more info showing how screwed up the current system is will come out. The Owners will be the first to cave, and Bettman will lose his job.

Nothing against Dats, but I gotta go with Feds.

Also, all the owners own other businesses, they use hockey losses as write offs for their other businesses when they file their taxes for the year. I own two businesses, the more money you make, the more the Government takes. I'd bet all the owners doctor the books so it doesn't look like they make as much, and those are the numbers they're showing the players now too.
-
I think Bettman loses his job when this is all said and done. Seriously, how can he show his face in public ever again without the threat of seriously getting hurt? There's no way he can present the Cup without being completely pelted with food, beer, and garbage, and fans trying to take swings when he walks out. Probably the worst thing to happen to the owners was they put this system together back in 2005, and now they're crying poor. Why are the players locked out because the owners don't know how to run their sport? Fans and media support the players this time, the longer this thing goes, the more pressure it puts on Bettman and the owners. If anyone caves, it's the owners. Clearly the problem is the lack of proper revenue sharing, the Floor is bankrupting teams, and there's to many teams in horrible markets. Fehr and the players know this and they aren't giving and inch, and I don't think they have to. The players don't have to do anything until the owners address these 3 issues.
-
Huh? Are you saying he'll be better than a 4 time Stanley Cup Champion and someone who played over 1,000 games as a Red Wing?
-
I think the only way to get rid of Bettman is empty seats when the Lockout is over. I'm not buying tickets to protest Bettman, and I hope other hockey fans do the same thing. 4 lockouts under this moron, there's no reason to go to games until he's gone. I have a feeling attendance for American teams will suffer. Canadian teams, they're all like sheep, the league could tell them to F-off, and they'd still buy tickets.
-
I agree. A possible 4th lock out under Bettman? I've had enough. I can get my sports fix with MLB and the NFL, and enjoy the Wings memories I have since 1995. Funny the owners think 57% is to much, and majority of fans think the players are over paid. I've heard that most businesses, 75% of the money they make goes towards paying their workers. I found that interesting. Edit: Hey did anyone else hear the NHL said they lost something like $250 Million the last few years? BS if you ask me! Why is the cap going up every year?

If you could reset the career of one Wings player...
Barrie replied to dirtydangles's topic in General
Yzerman, no question. How 'bout this, instead of resetting a career, let's reset to 1995. I'd love to relive the 1995-2004 years. What a special time to be a Wings fan. With the way sports is going now, Salary Cap, Luxury Tax, and Parity crap, I'll never enjoy 10 years with one of my a favorite sports team like I did with those Wings teams. I'm forever greatfull to have lived through that time. We would have won more Cups in the 50's if Adams didn't freak out like he did and trade Hall and Lindsay to Chicago. The Hawks can thank the Red Wings for that Cup win in 1961. I know Lindsay wasn't on the 1961 Cup team, but he helped them get there with his leadership in the previous seasons. -
Obviously not close to the same player as Suter, but probably would be better bang for the buck.

Seriously, if there's a lockout I'm starting to wonder how many fans are going to come back? I'm at the point where I'm starting to look for other things to watch and spend my money on starting in October. It's really not worth worrying if a CBA will get done in time, how many games will be missed, if we'll even have a season. If the NHL is going to lockout players every 8 years, I really don't have to follow it. The Lions are going to have an exciting season, I'll follow the NFL more instead, and just wait out that couple months between the Superbowl and the start of the MLB season. I play the outdoor sports anyway, so Bettman can suck it!
-
I'd have to agree with the 1st rounds of 1993 and 1994, the 1995 final, and the 1996 WCF as the toughest to watch again. At least after 1997 and 1998 playoff loses have been easier to take. I think since post back to back Cups, 2003 and 2006 top the list as don't watch. 2012, I only watched Games 2 and 3, so I can't really include that series, because I was so pissed at the non suspension to Weber. I figured Bettman wanted Nashville to win and was fixing games again like he did in the 2009 Final and the 2010 series against SJ when the League allowed the Sharks to dive without any penalty calls, and I didn't want to give that little weasel my TV ratings.
-
Other than the non suspension to Malkin and refs missing 6 Pens on the ice for 20+ seconds in Game 6 (was the fix in?), the thing that bugs me the most about that loss is that Osgood didn't get his due.
-
Everything you've mentioned you can blame the owners for, not the players. As I said earlier, there isn't proper revenue sharing right now. There's a bigger gap now between the rich and poor now than before the lockout. The owners put this plan in place, which clearly has huge flaws.
-
Take a good hard look at the other 3 leagues and see how they deal with things because I think this hard cap and floor is complete failure! The NHL says they link the cap to revenue, but they don't have proper revenue sharing, which is why so many teams are broke. The big markets are controlling what the small markets spend and have to sit on their profits because of the hard cap. Small markets need to be able to base their team salaries on what they bring in and not what the entire league does. A Luxury Tax would allow the big markets to spend the money they have to sit on now, plus they can share revenues better with the small markets. Small markets can base their team salary on what they bring in, and how much they collect in revenue sharing. Honestly if things continue as they are, I have better things to do than watch a League that allows a 6 vs. 8 seed final. There's other sports that know how to run things that I can watch instead of the Gary Bettman Show. To lockout the players because they don't know how to share renues properly is insane! Luxury Tax works well in other sports. There's a reason why the NHL always has CBA problems.
-
Baseball's got things under control, and Fehr was a part of that. The NHL needs Fehr! It's not about how much money the players make, it's about the system that's in place. To many people look ONLY at the players salaries.
-
Agree, when is enough enough with this guy!? Isn't "3rd time's a charm", and "3 strikes (in this case a lockout) you're out"? The fact that we're going to have a 3rd lockout under this guy is a complete embarrasment!

I was thinking about this last week, it's too bad they're offering so many tickets to Toronto fans. A certain percentage of them are a bunch of obnoxious morons who would treat a win at any of these games like winning the Stanley Cup. Also they'd have a huge chip on their shoulder with the name "Hockeytown", since Toronto likes to call themselves the "Mecca of Hockey". They wouldn't enjoy the experience and entertainment, instead they'd just turn it into a city of Toronto vs. the city of Detroit thing. Trust me, living in the Toronto area, the outdoor game would be a lot more fun if they didn't allow so many Maple Leaf fans there. However, joke's on the Leaf fans, we're using them for their $$$, just like MLSE does (oops, did I just say that last sentance outloud? )
