Yea crazy, it sounds like a big waste of time to me. This move screams that the League is in bad financial trouble, despite what dictator Bettman trys to tell us. No no, according to Bettman everything is fine. There's a number of investors lining up to buy the team and keep them in Phoenix.

For your arguement, you probably shouldn't have mentioned those guys. Give it a few years, and Holland's 2010, 2011, and 2012 drafts will look great!
-
I'll defend Holland since post Bowman. His draft picks have been been in the high 20's, or they traded their 1st round picks for two 2nd round picks. Those players take time to develop. Also the Cap has handcuffed Holland when it comes to Free Agents, with Datsyuk, Franzen, Zetterberg, Kronwall, etc. signed, there's really nothing else he could have done until this year. When Holland's had money for Free Agents this off season, the market turned unreasonable.

The Ever-Increasing Cap, Ridiculous Contracts, and Hitting
Barrie replied to zenway9's topic in General
Agree 100%! -
I agree I think it's the owners turn to give in, plus the players have Donald Fehr on their side. This current CBA has been a disaster if you ask me, and the players are ready to expose it. They need to meet in the middle and have a luxury tax.

The Ever-Increasing Cap, Ridiculous Contracts, and Hitting

They don't need to get rid of hitting, they just need to ban head shots. It's that simple! -
Where do we go from here? Let's try a youth movement
Barrie replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
I'm ok with a youth movement. There's no way I want the Wings to enter into these insane 13 year contracts for Free Agents. It's too risky bringing in a new guy for that long. Just sign the guy you've drafted and developed to 13 year deals, there's no surprises. -
Carman's correct, it's the Cap. Also Suter Parise wanted to play together, and Parise wanted to play in his home state of Minnesota. George Costanza said it best, "It's not you, it's me" Right, after I heard that, I'm glad we didn't get him.
-
Those are horrible contracts, we're a lot better off without them.
-
Wow, 12-13 year deals? I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather just build our own talent through the draft. Bettman's going to try and blame the players for these long term deals, when in fact it's his own fault!

Ilitch, Chelios to fly to Suter, Holland to fly to Parise
Barrie replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I would be very surprised if we got Parise. We already have Dats, Z, and Franzen signed long term, so I'm not expecting another forward signed for more than 5 years, unless Franzen get traded. Plus I think we're ok at forward with Nyquist playing in Detroit all year. Suter, I'd bet money he'll be a Wing next year.- 79 replies

signed Red Wings sign Damien Brunner, 1-year (2-way), $925,000 + bonuses
Barrie replied to Matt's topic in General
I'm really not expecting more than GR for Brunner. If so, it's still a good deal. -
Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr
Barrie replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I'm ok with this move, Gustavsson will make a decent back up. -
signed Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)
Barrie replied to Matt's topic in General
I'll be honest, this move doesn't make any sense to me at all. -
signed Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr
Barrie replied to Tim.D's topic in General
I like this signing. People have been wanting grit for a long time, and that's what Tootoo brings. An Abby-Helm-Tootoo line will be great! -
League takeover of cash-strapped Devils may be inevitable
Barrie replied to edicius's topic in General
What they need to do is get rid of the floor. If they want to cap the top, that's fine, but the floor has been a complete disaster, despite what the Dictator Bettman says. Let teams base their team salary on what they bring in, not what the entire league does. It's so obvious that revenue sharing and the floor isn't working. Teams were better off financially before the cap. I think the players have the advantage this time around. A 1/3 of the teams are in the toilet, the more games missed, the more debt they'll get in, which will lead to 1/2 of the teams in financial trouble. The players really have an opportunity to stick it to the owners and get the game back to being entertaining again. -
Great move! Helm's hitting his prime, that's a bargain!

Well considering the last 9 Cup Champs have been different teams, that Dictator Bettman wants parity (and everyone just follows his lead for some reason without asking questions), people were saying the same thing about Chicago and Pittsburgh a few years ago (it hasn't happened), and mid level players will head hunt LA players now, I'd say they're one and done. The league is set up for a different champion every year. Edit: May as well just go for 30 different champions in a row, and start over.

Yea it'll sell out. For Leafs fans, that's a bargain! The sad thing is, if the Leafs win, their fans would act like they won the Stanley Cup. I was at an exhibition game once, Leafs/Wings, and Leaf fans were honking their horns after they beat the Wings. It was September!

Darren McCarty seeks protection from former pals
Barrie replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
All the best to my second favorite Wing of all-time. Stevie's #1, Ozzie #3, Holmstrom #4, and Shanny rounds out the top 5. I'm looking forward to DMac's book. -
2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils
Barrie replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Wow some great Game 4 talk going on here tonight! Edit: The players have some great arguments going into the off season for the new CBA. Despite how bright Bettman says the future is, the reality is, no one cares. -
I second that.

I think it's safe for all of you with Zetterberg jerseys to put a "C" on it.
-
End of an era, maybe even more so than Yzerman. Just like Yzerman's retirement, words cannot express how much we appreciated what Lidstrom has done for the franchise. Holmstrom is the last man standing.

The Wings were playing the Blues in the 2nd round of the playoffs, but this also happened:
