    Boqvist

Yeah on his elite prospect page, it says he's out for the season with a concussion. I'd stay away from him as well. However, I haven't watched any games, and only learned about these prospects on Saturday when we were awarded the 6th pick, heh.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

I saw a mock draft today which has us taking Hughes. I'd rather go with size in Bouchard or Dobson, instead of 5'9 Hughes. However, I haven't watched any of them play, so I don't want to be called a FiveFootNineophobe

I was looking at some stats, I see Rasmussen has 30 pts (15 goals, 15 assists) in 13 playoff games. Gotta love that!

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

It would have been great to win the lottery, but at #6 we can get a really good defenseman. I'd be happy with Dobson or Bouchard. I'm happy for Buffalo. I live an hour away from Buffalo, it's a great town, with great hockey fans, who've been through a lot. They deserve a break like that.

2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Yeah, the Leafs must be intimidated, scared, or something. In their own zone, they look like they have no idea what to do. Like Don Cherry said after Game 4, this is the NHL they're playing in, they should know things like, on a 2 on 1, take away the pass, but instead they go after the guy with the puck, leaving the goalie to fend for himself. It's basic stuff. I would expect a Babcock coached team to know it. Unless Babcock is letting it happen, to get his player's attention. Either way, they need some toughness back there.

Suter's been worth the money, but Parise's been a bust!
  8. No doubt a 2002 Avs vs. 2008 Wings series would be great!

2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

I know the Leafs don't have the best defense, but I'm shocked at how poorly a Babcock coached team has been playing in their own zone. I'd expect it in his first year as a coach, to get his players attention, but not in year three. The Leafs are paying Babcock $7 million a season, he should be teaching his defensemen better positional hockey than this.
  10. I think the 2008 Wings could beat the 2002 Avs. The 2008 Wings dominated all year, they outshot their opponents on an average by 11. They had the puck the entire game!

Holland and Blashill expected to return

I'm happy Holland is back. I agree with others, I like the trades he's made the last couple years. I don't have a problem with him not starting the rebuild sooner. When you have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Kronwall on your roster, you do what you can to do to make the playoffs and win. As soon as Datsyuk retired, the rebuild began. After 2 years, Holland's done a good job unloading disappointing players (Tatar, Smith, Mrazek), and getting draft picks. I'm fine with Blashill back. We're not ready to contend yet, so there's no rush to bring in a big named coach yet. We'll see in the next two years if Blash is the guy or not, while we rebuild, to see if he's the coach to take us to the next level.
  12. I agree about 2008, it was the most dominate team of the 25 year playoff run. 2002 was a great team, but they were down twice in the playoffs. 2002 probably had the most drama. It was my favorite of the 4 Championships. It really only got scary once in 2008, the 1st round in Game 5 when it went to OT. I know after Dallas went down 0-3 in the Conference Final, they forced a Game 6, but we still were in control of that series. Plus Game 6 wasn't much of a game.

    Bad Fans?

I'm with the rest of you. I actually stopped watching because I'm cheering for loses. I don't feel bad about it, because losing now means wins later. I'm actually not interested in watching hockey at all right now. We'd be bad fans if we ditched the Wings and started cheering for another team.
  14. A year and a half after the discussion started, #40 for sure, the rest are probably no.
  15. Good seeing Mantha and Larkin getting points early.

    How's the LCA

Watching games on TV, I don't like the organ. I was a big fan of the "Let's Go Wings" song at Joe Louis, but at LCA all I've heard is it played on the organ.
  17. I'm watching on Sportsnet. As some of you may know, I'm very critical of announcers, but tonight's announcers are decent. They don't get to excited either way.

    How's the LCA

I'll be there January 7th, also looking to get some resales on Ticketmaster for December 9th. Which side of the ice does Fox Sports Detroit have their desk on? I want to sit on that side and yell at Ozzie

Athanasiou Signed 1 year $1.4 mil

I haven't been following too close, and I don't want to go through 27 pages, but what is AA asking for? Dude's only played 101 games in the NHL, he has to be realistic. Holland, if you like him or not, isn't a GM who low balls.
  23. Hey everyone, just wanted to share I've had a fun summer Red Wings related. Today I met Budd Lynch's nephew. I have a Life Insurance License, every year to keep the license valid, we need to earn credits. I earn credit by attending a day of teaching at a conference center, and the teaching includes a free lunch. Today at lunch, one of my coworkers and I had Lynch's nephew come up to us and ask if he could sit with us, because he didn't know anyone. We do the typical intros, "Nice to meet you", and small talk. There was a TV in the lunch room, and it had sports on. They were showing the Leafs training camp, so I said, "I'm not a fan, but I think the Leafs are going to have a good year". Lynch's nephew agreed, and said he not a Leafs fan either. I said, "I'm a Wings fan", and he said he is too. I told him, "I have family in Windsor, so I grew up going to Tigers and Wings games". Lynch's nephew said, "My Uncle worked with the Red Wings. He did different jobs, then play-by-play, and was the PA Announcer." My jaw dropped and I said, "Wait a minute, your Uncle is Budd Lynch?". Anyway, it was a fun conversation talking about Budd, Ted Lindsay, Gordie, Joe Louis Arena, the current Red Wings team, and more. I asked Budd's nephew when Budd started play-by-play (I forgot off hand), when he said 1949 I went, "He saw it all! That's when everything started". Add to that, in July I met Bob Probert's oldest daughter, she works at a restaurant owned by family on my Uncle's side. We were sitting down waiting to order, and my Aunt goes, "Oh, Probert's daughter works here, there she is over there". I said, "Really? I want to ask her about her Dad then, but how could I bring it up?". My Aunt says, "I'll ask her how the Bikers Fundraiser went, then you can say something". Anyway, my Aunt asks Probert's daughter about the fundraiser, so I said, "Yeah, my Aunt says you work here. I can see the family resemblance" (she does look like her dad). I added, "I remember your Dad, he was a great player. I remember when him and Joey Kocur where the 'Bruise Brothers'". Probie's daughter said, "Oh Joey Kocur, he's so nice". Leaving I said to her, "I'm going to brag to my friends I met one of Probert's daughters. Maybe you get that a lot?" She said, "Sometimes". Cool huh?

Met a Couple Red Wings Family Members

I had a good laugh with the discussion about asking her out. If I asked her out, her live in boyfriend wouldn't like it.

I was called a moron for posting this on Facebook, but that McDavid contract has increased the value of all young RFA's. AA is comparing himself to McDavid now, and is being unrealistic. Soon the highest paid players in the league are going to be in their early 20's. This McDavid contract is going to lead to another lockout. The owners will want a cap on RFA contracts next.
