Decisions like throwing the bank at a couple players result in a couple years of harmony and years of mediocrity. I would rather the Wings have a good roster and make the playoffs every year than sign Parise and Suter for 10 years for huge money, and then not make the playoffs for the last 5-6 years of that deal. So far, all I have heard from you is that "Holland isn't doing enough". What would you have done if you were in his spot? Trade away all your young talent to win now? Sign Weber to a $120 million dollar offer sheet? The way the Wings are built now, they will make the playoffs. After that, as evidenced by the Kings this season, anything can happen once the playoffs start and it doesn't matter where you place.

I bet Weber was thinking about the CBA. He could potentially get LESS money if he waited and there are radical changes.

Haha, so a GM that can't get good proven young talent from other clubs for our scraps is a bad GM? Let me give you a hint here....no GM can work that magic, especially in the new NHL. I don't care if you pay your GM 6 million or 60 million a year. No GM is going to perform the NHL version of the Louisiana Purchase. This!

This is why we didn't try to sign him to a one year deal for $10 million. If he accepted and the Preds let him go, we would have had to sacrifice 4 first round picks. It doesn't matter if its $10 million or $100 million, its still 4 first round picks. I don't understand why fans are bitching at Ken Holland about this. Why are Wings fans hoping that we handcuff ourselves for 14 years and give up 4 first round picks?

Haha, I wouldn't go that far. Its really tough to tell how we are going to do. We have to put in youngsters in the lineup, and that adds some unknowns. how will they respond? No one knows until the season starts. I think the Wings are probably going to make the playoffs, and thats all that matters. With an 8 seed winning in 2012, anything can happen come playoff time. Care to back it up with stats and solid analysis or pointless trolling comments? Since you can't, here we go. Nyquist, Flip, and a first rounder are too good to give up for Nash because of the potential. Flip has a great season. Nyquist is just now coming into his own and he was a leader in scoring in the minors. He will get 2nd line minutes probably this season, if not 3rd. Plus a first rounder in 2013, which has a great draft class coming up. I have to agree, its too steep of a price to pay for a winger. -

If you know the Ducks GM, then have him give Holland a call. I bet he would make that deal. I bet the Ducks are asking for more than that. Probably Flip, Franzen, and a first rounder, to which I say no to. I don't see the need to give up 100 points to get a 60 point guy. -
Semin offered 5 years and $7.5 million, Holland overpaid, fire him. Don't get Semin, Holland is a failure, fire him. Seems like a no win scenario to me. Semin can make 10 million in the KHL.

You are right in that it is high risk, and for a winger mind you. I think that price is too steep, especially with the 1st rounder added in too which is what you didn't discuss. Would you make that trade? I wouldn't. Link? Source? I haven't read a single report on what was offered. It certainly would be nice to hear something credible before we pass judgement. Otherwise, I heard from "a source" that he offered Dats, Zetterberg, and Franzen for Nash and they rejected. -

I think that price is very high for Nash. Let me expand on this a bit. Why give up the 50 points that Franzen puts up, along with the 50 points that Flip puts up, along with the 30 points that Nyquist will put up this season, and a first rounder for a player that will probably get only 80 points this season? -
At this point, we are going to have to overpay for talent. Either that, or just bring up the kids and focus on making the playoffs.

The key here is UFA. He can go where he likes. Holland can offer him a one year deal at 10 million, but if he wants to make less and go to the Pens, then Holland can't do anything about it.

So, you disagree with this assessment? I think most SANE Wings fans would. At the same time, he is entitled to his opinion. Just like I have stood up for the refereeing that many people here think is ungodly bad. Does my opinion about the refereeing fall into the "trolling" category just because it differs from the majority? No. To be totally honest, I believe they should be shutting down people who are levying personal attacks against other members. There is a way to have a great debate on a topic. Levying personal attacks isn't the way to go. -

I believe the biggest problem on this forum is merging a disagreement with trolling. Just because someone posts a point that disagrees with yours doesn't mean the guy is trolling. It means he disagrees with your assessment. The sooner people realize that the better. -
I am not going. I will watch it on my LCD TV in HD quality, at home, where it is warm. $200 a ticket for good seats? Screw that.

Actually, if its around here, it sounds like the opposite of that Mitch Albom story. I guess we have started our decline and lost our luster according to the fans here. Only one fan has posted a positive story, everything else is gloom and doom.

I am in agreement with this....but to an extent. Columbus is looking to rape the Red Wings from the way it sounds. Would you trade Flip, Franzen, and Nyquist for Nash? Hell, IMHO, Flip, Smith, and Nyquist is a HUGE price to pay for Nash.

You might have wanted to clarify that then. Besides, based on the cup winner this year, I think its readily apparent that any team that makes the playoffs has a legit shot to win it all. The Wings made the playoffs the last three years. You really can't blame Holland for the Wings not winning the cup the last three years. They had the team to do it, but if anything, I blame the hunger level of this team. It was quite obvious that San Jose was hungrier in 10 and 11, while the Preds were hungrier in 12. I am not saying that Holland can do no wrong, but there are things he can control and things he can't. In the end, Holland has built playoff caliber teams and very few here want to give him credit where credit is due.

Ok then, since I was replying to someone who said that Holland DIDN'T build a championship team around Nick, how DIDN'T he contribute to building the team as GM? Answer: He did contribute to building the team. Did you even read what I was replying to? Obviously not.

Did you really just say that? I suppose winning 4 Stanley Cups and making it to the finals another time isn't enough for some people. Hell, they won a cup in 2008 and made it to the finals in 2009.

Dear Mr. Holland: Forget about FA, trade for Yandle and Ryan
Nightfall replied to YzermanRULES19's topic in General
So tell me Mr. GM, how would you structure your trade for both players? I will even let you invite a 3rd team in on the mix. Since you are calling for a trade, I want to see what your armchair GM skills are like.- 61 replies

This coming from the guy who is down on the Red Wings 90% of the season? Pot meet kettle.
