Yeah, I mean, I'm open to pretty much anything. I'd like to see Zadina in the top six and I think I'd like to see Rasmussen on Nielsen's wing (because Nielsen has made it known that he prefers playing with north-south wingers), but it's a long season and we're going to see a lot of different combinations. The centers are more or less set, but it's anyone's guess how the wingers are going to shake out. I have Mantha as our top winger and I'm pretty sure Blashill is going to treat him and Larkin as a "forward pair." Beyond that, I don't see a clear hierarchy in the winger group.

At the moment, sure. But Dubas's GM skillz are really going to be put to the test in the coming years.

I said it would *probably* be a disaster. I'm open to the idea that it could work as a severely sheltered scoring line, but I'd rather have Zadina in the top six and I'd like one of AA's wingers to be someone who we know can play a respectable two-way game at the NHL level, just to balance out the line.

He's actually a surprisingly good three-zone player and PKer. It's one of the reasons why scouts were so high on him and why he's been compared to Hossa. But, yeah, doing it in the QMJHL and doing it in the NHL are two different things. That being said, Vanek-Athanasiou-Zadina would probably be a disaster. AA-Nielsen-Vanek was definitely a thing. I believe Nyquist-AA-Vanek was a very short-lived experiment. I'm not firmly opposed to Vanek being one of AA's wingers. It's understood that Vanek was brought back to mentor and boost the younger forwards, and he and AA did seem to have some chemistry. But I'd definitely want the other winger on that line to be experienced and defensively responsible. Bertuzzi's still green and his underlying numbers are crap. I might trust Rasmussen a wee bit more than I'd trust Bertuzzi, if only because he's a natural center. Honestly, Abby might be the best/safest pick. Mantha Larkin Zadina Rasmussen Nielsen Nyquist Abdelkader Athanasiou Vanek Bertuzzi Glendening Helm ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seattle is lazy and it sucks.

We're coming for you, Tronna. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Yep. Holland himself has said that's the plan. He showed this past season that he's committed to steering the ship in that direction, so I've got very little to complain about re: the rebuild effort. I know a lot of folks think the Wings should be tanking hard and I get where they're coming from. But, right now, I'm fully on-board with the Holland plan. Like you said, give us one or two more drafts like the one we just had and we should be in a good place. I'm not expecting the team to be a powerhouse within the next three years, but I'm also not sold on all the talk of how the Wings are in for a very long and very painful rebuild. Y'know what amuses me? Seeing every hockey pundit say the Wings are trapped in cap hell. Let's ignore the Zetterberg situation. Let's ignore all the money that's set to come off the books next summer and the summer after that. Let's ignore the fact that having a ton of cap space doesn't necessarily get you anywhere.
-
I hear that. I'm ready for the post-Zetterberg era. Bring it on.
-
Agreed. If it doesn't work, maybe you try Rasmussen at center.

Personally, I'm expecting an injury or two in training camp. Deus ex machina, baybee. -
Note that "doesn't want" (original rumor tweet) and "not unwilling" (Friedman tweet) aren't necessarily contradictory. Could be that he *isn't totally opposed* to staying in Canada but *would really rather not*.

Right. We've finally reached that point where NHL virgins making the team out of camp is something to be expected. It's a brave new world. -

If we go with Khan's take, then Z "won't be ready" (i.e. is done) and all three of Rasmussen, Zadina, Hronek will be on the opening night roster. Even if Z plays, we know Rasmussen is pretty much guaranteed to make the team out of camp. So, no matter what happens with Z, we're getting at least one new kid right away. Z playing could indeed mean that Zadina starts the season in Grand Rapids, which would be disappointing. But he wouldn't be there long. If Holland does decide to make a trade before the puck drops on Game 1, I'm thinking it's Jensen or Nyquist. -
Well, we all know this much: Glendening will not be traded before Game 1. If he does get moved this season, it'll probably be during trade deadline week.
