Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

Bottom line, Alfredsson can play, so there's no real need for Pulks. Send him back down and let him keep tearing it up and building confidence and working on things and being awesome. It's not like this is his third season with the Griffins and he's got nothing left to learn or prove. I guess the argument could be made that he'd be better than Bertuzzi, but then you're talking about a bottom-six role, which means excellent D is a prerequisite (even though Bert's not exactly a Selke candidate), which would make Teemu Pulkkinen a weird choice (though, like I said, his overall game is better than you might think). Also, to be fair, as awesome as the kid line has been for us, they've also been *showing their youth* these past two or three games. I can see Babs saying we've got more than enough young talent right now and what we could really use is - somewhat ironically - some veteran leadership, stability.

Who's to say we're gonna be here in the future? What if we get hit by an asteroid?

He used to be a center, true. But he's doing incredibly well as a winger, so we're not gonna mess with that.

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

I don't think they'd call him up if he had a long way to go before he's even competent defensively at the NHL level. I've actually been really impressed with his game overall. He could use another season on the farm, but, it's funny - I've been thinking lately that if we decide to Go Young and Alfredsson decides to call it a career, Pulkkinen would be a good replacement. He's pretty much the guy now in Grand Rapids, at least in terms of high-end forwards.
  10. This has probably already been mentioned, but it's been reported that the Bruins almost got Edler. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/07/report-bruins-had-deal-in-place-for-edler-but-canucks-blew-it/comment-page-1/ Sound vaguely familiar?

  12. Do we know that management believes streak > long-term future? I don't think bringing Legwand aboard necessarily means we're "all-in." I think what it boils down to is that we're in a good position to make the playoffs, but, suddenly, our top four or five centers are out. Point being, it'd be a shame to throw away the season (and, quite possibly, all the extra profit that comes with making the playoffs), unless we're absolutely head-over-heels for someone in the draft. As for me, I've accepted that the Legwand deal had to happen and that there's no way the Preds don't demand a crown jewel prospect, because they know how utterly desperate we are for Legwand's services. On a sort-of-related note, trade Helm this summer. It's time.

They're all bottom-sixers, though. It's about money. Make the playoffs, make more money. Money > everything else.

    Stamkos named Captain of TBL

Fortunately for Stamkos, it's unlikely that his leadership will ever be questioned the way Yzerman's was, pre-Cups.

3/6 GDT: Avs 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT) Sorry Nick.

We like our team. We kicked the tires, but we didn't feel the price was right. Getting our injured players back will be like--oh God, I can't even bring myself to finish this, I feel nauseated.

We were pioneers in the arts of poaching Russians and drafting obscure Swedes and playing a possession-driven game. Now we need to be pioneers in trading for defensemen when no one is trading for a defenseman.

Thing is, we still suck with either or both in the lineup. We suck less, yes, but it's not like the only times we blow games are when neither one's in the lineup. On a side note, I love, love, LOVE that we stood pat with our blue line. We are absolutely going to win the Cup with Kronwall and Ericsson playing like a second pairing and Quincey ruining DeKeyser. I hate this season so ******* much.

It is so monumentally hard for us to win two points on any given night. Every game feels like a Game 7. It's like Team Canada, minus all the awesome.

We should just roll with Monster. We seem to score much more with him in net, for whatever reason.
