Clarkson sucks. He has no hockey sense, he's been suspended twice since becoming a Leaf, and his contract is nightmarish. (And yes, I realize I'm the same guy who wouldn't mind having Chris Stewart on our team. But, see, Chris Stewart can actually produce.) Weiss is a better player, he's just been hit with injuries.

And another thing: What the eff is this "He was behind a lot of talent here" crap? He's a first-year Griffin, and a first-year NA pro. Since when do we hold that against a kid and tell him, "Well, you're not where the guys who are currently on our team are at, so I don't see this working out in the long run"? By the time he'd be making his fashionably late debut with the Wings (a la Tatar, Nyquist), Z and D would probably be just about done. Holland hates kids, loves 35-year-olds.

Jarnkrok is no Pulkkinen? This whole thing is so bizarro world. Yesterday Jarnkrok was The Future, today he maybe let it slip one night when he was drunk that he misses Sweden and also he was never good and never gonna be any good and we have Andersson and also he's too small and also we should never trade any of our top prospects but if we do then it's good because prospects are just prospects and we can't sell our future for a rental so a pick and a prospect was way too much for Vanek but a 3rd/2nd and arguably our best prospect for Legwand was a must and hopefully Legwand isn't just a rental and he forces Sheahan back down to Grand Rapids for another two years because in the salary cap era it's all about drafting well and developing your prospects and building from within and we like our team except we don't except we do and also Datsyuk is out for three weeks and Zetterberg is out for the rest of the regular season and Weiss may never play again and Helm has a really bad headache and we're going to re-sign Quincey for 3 years because he's the absolute best we can do for a #4 defenseman. I hate today. I hate this season. I hate that our players are faking injuries because they can. I hate that Space Mountain is a wooden rollercoaster. Last I checked, there's no wood in space.

Thing is, where does Legwand slot into a healthy lineup? Datsyuk, Weiss, Helm, Sheahan, Andersson, Glendening...

Andersson isn't going to be a top-six center, Sheahan will probably settle in as a good third-line center, and Helm is a third-line center. None of the centers in Grand Rapids project as top-sixers. Speaking of Sheahan, remember when he was supposed to be a career fourth-liner in the NHL? Remember when the DUI incident made us really wonder if he'd pan out? I'm not gonna argue about Vanek. The fact is (again, assuming I'm not missing anything), 28 GMs missed the eff out, and Holland was one of them. Anyone who says "Yeah, but you have to understand"--no, there's nothing to understand. Marc "Moron" Bergevin got Thomas Vanek for a pick and a prospect. It's the Devil's way now.

But...it's Thomas Vanek. And Legwand is a rental. Like, I get that we needed a good veteran center. But, well, I guess I'm trying to wrap my head around is the idea that we might've been able to add Vanek AND Legwand without surrendering a single Untouchable Roster Player.

I guess the big thing I'm getting at is the fact that we bowed out of the Vanek sweepstakes pretty early because whOaMG 2 much 4 a rental gtfo kthxbai! ...and then he goes for cheap. And you're saying everyone knew the Isles were going to be bent over and spanked and he would go for cheap. So, we bowed out early because the price was too high for a rental, but we knew the price wasn't going to be high because the Isles had a very, very weak position. Surely I'm missing something here.

Am I missing something or did we in fact pay more for David Legwand (a rental) than the Habs paid for Thomas Vanek?
