Just received the following e-mail from the Wings: The NHL and the Detroit Red Wings invite you to watch a special announcement live Sunday, April 7th at 10:30 am. You may watch live via this link or through their mobile ap. Excerpts will be shown during NBC's broadcast of the St. Louis game.

The first thought that went through my head when I read the topic title was "What an ungrateful ******* ***** ** ****." First, the money that was earmarked for certain players was never necessary; second, there were no viable back up plans; third, the cap was expected to shrink. Spending up to the cap at that point would have put us in a bad salary dump position; why sign some players only to have to buy them or others out? Just because the Wings are going through a few speed bumps is no reason to turn on the man who lost millions of his own money for YEARS to keep this team here; spent millions of his own dollars to sign the best talent available and has given back more to his players and this town than any other NHL owner. I think you owe Mr. I an abject apology.

Please let's not debate all the H.W.S.N.B.N. crap again. This thread is about his injury, not anything else. I can't stand the guy and if he and Bettman fell off the face of the earth together, I could die happy; however, I can gain no joy from this injury. I know I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to take that puck to the face - I hope dental surgery is all that's necessary.

Please do not attempt to turn this into Crosby v. Yzerman. Discuss the injury and potential repercussions, not his ability, attitude, etc. Thanks.

You're telling me it's not a punk move to let management get so far into a deal that it's announced without telling them that's not where he wanted to go?

I wasn't there so I don't know, but if true, this was a real punk move on Iginla's part. I wouldn't be surprised in the least, though. I really have no respect for the guy. All the more reason to root for Boston now, especially when they play the Pens. (Yeah, like there wasn't reason enough already)

I figured if he hadn't announced by Wednesday, he was going with someone other than the Wings. He wouldn't keep others waiting that long only to sign with the obvious. The question is who did he decide on?

Good move for the Pens, not such a good move for us. I'm glad, glad I tell you, that we didn't score Iginla. I can't stand that SOB, and the price was too damn high to get him anyway. I think people are so frustrated with the lack of splashy moves on the part of Holland that each time some serviceable player goes elsewhere, it just makes them foam at the mouth that much more. Iginla is not a big loss to us - helpful, probably, but not a big loss. The reason it's a bad move for us is because we will be facing a pretty well-stacked team consistently starting next year. While I agree that the Wings have been impressive all things considered, no one can deny that we need to improve in some areas, and PDQ.

Would that not be freakin' AWESOME?

I'm guessing you're not going to have a whole lot of success; you're not a regular member of the community. If you had been around a while it would be much easier, but I think you're going to be hard pressed to find someone to open their home to someone they don't know in the slightest.
