Recent Weiss rumors seem to be bogus

The Red Wings would have to SIGNIFICANTLY overpay O'Reilly for Colorado not to match the offersheet. I'm talking $5mil+ for over 5 years, and the Wings would have to cough up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Not worth it.

    Stars Michael Ryder Available

I don't think you understand the whole premise behind Ryder being traded... If the Red Wings aqcuired him, it would be as a playoff rental not a rebuilding piece. If Dallas is out of the playoff race at the deadline, they'll sell Ryder off to a playoff bound team. And you can bet that they will be offering way more than pucks and sticks... No chance Dallas moves Eriksson unless its for a huge package. Detroit would have to offer Helm, Smith, Tatar and Nyquist just to get Dallas to consider moving him. Especially considering that they may lose Ryder, Roy, Jagr and Morrow as UFA's this summer.

I don't think they'll be looking to upgrade over Colaiacovo and Huskins. Colaiacovo is still under contract for next season and with everyone healthy Huskins is their #7 guy, which will probably be Lashoffs spot next season. If they bring in a UFA dman, it'll be because they let White walk.

That sounds about right. If Getzlaf and/or Perry hit the open market, they will be the only real top line forwards available. Elias is scheduled to be a UFA as well, but I doubt he will go anywhere other than back to New Jersey. That being said, I can see Perry and/or Getzlaf getting offers upwards of $8mil a season.

I wonder if Perry will even hit the market this summer? Anaheim has boatloads of capspace for next season and could probably afford to bring back both Getzlaf and Perry easily. Selanne too, if he doesn't retire.

    Mursak on waivers

Him being an RFA is assuming that the Red Wings make a qualifying offer. With Nyquist, Tatar and Andersson all ahead of him on the depth chart, and Sheahan and Ferraro knocking on the door, he doesn't seem to be in the Red Wings future plans. That being said, it's possible the Red Wings may just let him become a UFA this summer. I think you need to do a little more research on RFA's. Like I said before, in order for Mursak to become an RFA, he needs to be tendered a qualifying offer, otherwise he becomes a UFA. If he doesn't accept that offer, he becomes an RFA. In order for another team to sign him as an RFA, they would need to send him an offer sheet. Now let's be realistic here, no team has EVER sent an offer sheet to a player that hasn't proved they belong in the NHL. However, let's say he does get sent an offer sheet. In order for the Red Wings to get compensation, the offer sheet would have to be a deal for more than $1,110,250 a season. If a GM were to send Jan Mursak an offer sheet for more than $1,110,250 a season, they would probably not have a job as a GM for much longer or even ever again. Let's face it, Jan Mursak may have some skill and may be a good guy, but it's looking like he is NOT an NHL caliber player. The 29 other teams in the NHL had a chance to put him on their team for no cost at all, and they all passed. Good luck to you Jan.

I had a feeling I forgot someone. Knowing Hollands MO, I doubt anyone gets bought out or traded. Besides, I doubt Samuelsson or Bertuzzi would even make it through Unconditional waivers. I do agree that Kindl may get shopped. It seems that he has been jumped on the depth chart by Lashoff, and Lashoff can't go back to GR without hitting waivers after this season. There's absolutely no way that Sproul and Ouellet or even Sheahan "rotate" in and out of the lineup. The only way the dmen would make the team is if Babcock thinks they can play in the top 2 pairings, and that would be highly unlikely. They will probably spend a full year in GR before they are even considered for call ups. Sheahan won't be on the team full time unless they think he is going to be in the line-up every night, or is out of minor league options (which starts in the 15/16 season). I don't agree that Franzen should be traded. The Red Wings would have a very hard time finding a suitable replacement for around his cap hit. When healthy the guy pots 25-30 goals a year for less than $4mil a season. That's a bargain. I don't know how Filppula, Kindl or Quincey can be "trade bait". None of those players are going to bring any real Quality return. -Filppula has no value unless the Red Wings are deadline sellers (way out of the playoff race). And he'll bring back picks and maybe secondary prospects. -Kindl can maybe fetch a 4th round pick or an secondary AHL prospect at most. -Quincey certainly isn't producing up to his cap hit at the moment, and probably wouldn't fetch what Holland paid for him last season. Maybe he'd fetch a 2nd rounder? The UFA pool is once again going to be thin for quality Dmen. I doubt Holland would look to dump off Quincey when there's no guarantee he'd be able to bring in a quality replacement. By himself, Nyquist would probably bring in a mediocre playoff rental player. Packaged with some picks, he may be able to bring a slightly better one.

    Bruins looking for forwards.....

That's more realistic. Only if the Wings are out of the playoff race. However, they certainly won't be offering Seidenberg or McQuaid. It'll most likely be draft picks and/or secondary prospects. There's absolutely zero chance that Boston would take on Franzen's salary. They have $7.1mil in cap space next season to resign Rask, and resign or replace Khudobin, Horton, Johnson and Ference. If they add Franzen to the mix, they have $3.2mil in cap space for next season, which is $300k LESS than Rask is making right now.

    J.M. Liles potentially available

I doubt Toronto would move him unless they fall out of the playoff picture. While Liles and Komisarek are probably going to be amnesty buyouts this summer, they'll provide the Leafs with solid depth down the stretch and into the playoffs for the rest of the season. If teams want to take a stab at Liles, they'll probably wait until this summer when he will most likely become a UFA. No sense in the Red Wings taking on the huge cap hit of a guy that is a #7/8 dman in Toronto. The Red Wings have plenty of dmen like Liles.

I agree on Regehr. It's going to be very hard for the Wings to replace Lidstrom through free agency or trades. However, one thing they can do is plug the holes with Dmen that are hard to play against for the time being. Regehr fits that very well. I don't think Holland is going to make a big splash this offseason with free agent signings, unless the wheels completely fall off the bus this season. If it were me: I would resign Howard and Brunner. Let Cleary, Miller, White and Huskins go. Make a fair offer to Filppula, but I have a feeling he may want to test the market after seeing what Hudler got from Calgary. Give Lashoff, Tatar and Andersson spots on the regular roster. Sign a big Physical shutdown type Dman (Regehr, Murray, Fistric etc.) from the UFA pool. If Filppula signs elsewhere, replace him with a UFA second line forward. Franzen-Zetterberg-Brunner Filppula/UFA-Datsyuk-Samuelsson Tatar-Helm-Bertuzzi Abdelkader-Emmerton/Andersson-Tootoo Kronwall-Ericsson Quincey-Smith UFA-Colaiacovo w/ Lashoff & Kindl Howard Gustavsson

    Holland looking around

A lot of the teams that need to get cap compliant for next season will wait till between the draft and July 1st, unless they are well out of the playoff race.

    Trading Filppula

Oh sorry, got confused with Hossa being mentioned.
  13. DSM

    Trading Filppula

Probably a very minimal consideration. Hollands #1 focus at that point was to strengthen the team for the playoffs. Even though they may not have been coming back, trading them away would've had the opposite effect and the rage probably would've overloaded the servers on this forum.
  14. DSM

    Trading Filppula

They certainly won't trade him if they are in postition to make the playoffs, or are still in the race for spot #8.

    Mursak on waivers

They aren't best friends. There's an article somewhere out there from when the Wings played the Kings last March highlighting the fact that it was the first NHL game where 2 Slovenians were playing one another. They interview both players and they basically said that they pretty much just "know each other". Also, I doubt Dean Lombardi would open a roster spot on his team to bring in a small injury prone winger just to make Anze Kopitar happy.

    Mursak on waivers

They wanted Chelios to stay at #8, and Meech and Quincey battled in training camp for the #7 spot. That summer, they weren't sure where Quincey would end up fitting into the lineup. They even had him spend time with Aaron Downey over the summer, to teach him how to fight. Meech ended up getting the spot in camp. Holland offered Quincey to other teams, but no one wanted to give anything up for a dman that was out of minor league options and hadn't proven that he was good enough to be an NHL regular. The other teams opted to take their chances with waivers and lose nothing. Plus, with Ericsson quickly climbing the depth chart, Quincey was expendable.

    Mursak on waivers

Once again, if you were an NHL GM, what would you pay for an injury prone 3rd/4th line winger that doesn't play physical or score much? Considering, that just about every team has better and more established 3rd/4th line players on their team and even on their AHL team. I feel like a broken record on these forums sometimes.

    Trading Filppula

    Huh?

    Trading Filppula

I somewhat agree. If the Red Wings aren't in the play off hunt at the deadline, they could probably get a decent return for him from a contender. The guy may not be having a good season so far, but he netted 66pts last season and has one of the most impressive playoff resume's for a player under 30. He would bring a decent package. Then, they can replace him in the top 6 with Tatar or Nyquist, or sing an top 6 forward that brings a different dimension. I think the same would go for Ian White at the deadline. Once again (for the 4th time I think...) however, Filppula will have no value to teams like Columbus or Calgary. If I'm Jay Feaster and Holland calls me with that offer, I would hang up the phone immediately.

    Tootoo

I'm not saying I would rather have any player over another player. Just making an observation.

    Mursak on waivers

He's had 43 games to try and turn this immense potential into something useful at the NHL level, and posted an incredible 2 goals and 2 assists. He's a small injury prone winger and the Wings have better players to play on the 3rd/4th line. The battle was going to be between him and Emmerton this season, and Emmerton has won simply by comparing their durability. Were you this sour when Holland waived Mat Ellis too?
  23. DSM

    Tootoo

Think about it this way: The next season one of those gritty players retired (Drake) and the other two spent the majority of the season in GR (McCarty and Downey). They were not replaced. Instead, the Red Wings added ANOTHER SUPERSTAR (Hossa) and iced mostly the same team, but couldn't win it again against the same opponent. Interesting....
  24. DSM

    Tootoo

Anyone who calls Tootoo "just a goon" either knows nothing about hockey, or hasn't watched any games this season. He can skate well, control the puck and creates chances here and there. Plus, this whole Dorsett deal is the first "questionable" thing that he has done this season. I'm actually glad he did it too. Ericsson has been probably the Red Wings best dman, no sense in him fighting and being off the ice for 5 minutes or worse, getting hurt. Wrap your minds around this: The last time this team had players like Tootoo on it. They won a cup...

    Mursak on waivers

I agree. With his size and lack of physical play, he's going to have to produce if he hopes to stick at NHL level for a long time.
