    Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*

I am non-plussed about us acquiring JBo. I think we need a defensive minded d-man more than an offensive. If it means bolstering Calgary's offense, I'm even less enthused... and if Philly is driving up the pricetag forget it.

Hurricanes re-sign Jeff Skinner to 6-year extension.

It's funny how Rutherford is able to hand out these contracts (Semin, Skinner, Ruutu, and Staal) while Karmanos asks for a 24% rollback in salaries. They're already spending $7 million more than last year.

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged

Are you thinking of Ole-Kristian Tollefsen? We got him in the Leino trade from Philly. I know he was always pegged as a marginal NHL player and spent all of his time with the Wings in GR. I think he decided playing back in Europe was better for him.
  4. According to Darren Dreger, the Flyers offered Matt Read, Andrej Meszaros, a 1st, two 2nds and a 3rd for Weber -- a package Nashville declined.
  5. Question: If Nashville tanks this season and Weber does want out... what does it take to get Weber into a Detroit jersey next off-season? My guess would be to get good ol' Stevie Y on the phone and work out a nice three way deal again. In fact, I think maybe Holland should try this approach more frequently as so many teams seem unwilling trade with us. Dude you are *so* negative. ...and I can't believe you want to trade Flip over your new whipping boy "Franzine." Whoops. Just noticed Franzine is in the second option... which is still mystifying to me.

Additionally, neither really came out and said, "I'm taking my talents to the Land of 1000 Lakes."

    Paul Gaustad re-signs with Predators

That's a lot of cash and term for Gaustad.

    Tim Thomas.

Now that he's waived his No-Movement Clause... Can't the Bruins just send him down to the minors? What team is going to pick him up if they know he's not going to play? Instant cap relief, toll his contract when he doesn't show, retaining his rights... Win-Win-Win.

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

No, it works a bit different with RFAs. In both cases the teams are able to match the offer, but in the case of restricted agents... if the player signs with the team making the offer the current team gets draft pick compensation. The number and "level" of picks depends on the salary the player signs for. I'll find you a link for the draft compensation for RFA offer sheets. Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offer_sheet

Throw the bank at RFA Shea Weber?

No. Echoing Leftie, we cannot afford to give up 4 draft picks for Weber.
  11. Jokinen gets the same rap as Semin, Franzen, and the likes. Good scorer when motivated, but is often a floater. Decent sized. 33 years old. In my estimation, probably down the list on options for a top-six scorer. I'd prefer Semin just because he's naturally a winger, younger and the (perceived) chemistry with Datsyuk. I do like Parenteau for a Hudler replacement, but he's eager to return to the Isle. While Wideman and Carle are certainly options to help our defense, I think its Suter or bust. Then... the aforementioned.

    Which Players Would You Choose

There's actually four. I'm guessing your pick revolves around order of importance in signing and which Nashville Predator you prefer.

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

I have no problem with this possibility. With what is about to transpire this morning, re-stocking our defensive corps. with young highly touted prospects is a no brain-er...

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

Yeah, I think this is not going to be happy news for us that were hoping for one more year.
  16. Hmmm. Looks like these acquisitions are really paying off for the Preds.

So Who Do You Cheer For Now?

Love how the girl next to Hulk Malkin is laughing at the fact that a fellow Pens fan is being rightfully mocked. Go Philly. I know all the attention has shifted to the "Who would you HATE to see win the cup" thread, but I'd just like to point out the keen possibility of Kings vs. Flyers in the cup finals. It would be awesome and I'm rooting for it. I don't know if there's any real animosity between Carter/Richards and their former team for dumping them, but it certainly would add some possible media fueled intrigue.

    What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

What a coincidence, Gaustad is also a UFA this summer. I would be ecstatic if we were able to obtain either of these two guys for our fourth line. I've wanted Konopka for a couple of years now.

We Need to Get Tougher to Play Against

Why not just grab up Gaustad then? He is available as a FA this off-season. I can see Gaustad going back to Buffalo though...

    2011-12 Wings Eulogy

The joke about Howe and the veiled joke about Vladdy are classless. I know it's a "roast" but at the expense of former players battling dementia and permanent paralysis it's not particularly funny. There's a whole team of players that could have been better utilized for hilarity's sake... Oh wait, that would have required better writers.

Have we seen the last of Holmstrom?

Love the guy. Thank him for all his hard work. For the team, the majority DRW fans, and his own sake, I hope that this was his last year. He will be missed.

4-1 1st rd exit best thing for Wings

How about Ericsson and Quincey for their number one?

4-1 1st rd exit best thing for Wings

Next year he won't. His contract ended this season and he will need to be re-signed if he remains with the Wings.
