Holland doesn't regret the Legrand trade. The organization wanted to continue the streak and that wasn't happening with Andersson on the top line. Fans may not agree with making a push for the playoffs and giving up Jarnkrok but the trade did accomplish its goal. I would make that deal again today as it is highly probable we miss the playoffs without Legwand. The streak may mean nothing to many fans but it does mean something to the coaches, the players, the management, the Illitch's etc.

The people upset at this deal are the same people throwing Ferraro and Callahan into every trade proposal thinking they have value. Two fringe prospects and a second round pick (with a 3rd possibly coming back our way) for a guy on pace for 25 goals who can fill in nicely for the hole left by Franzen. Strengthens the top six nicely without having to give up one of our premium prospects. Kenny can trade down in the draft and get the 2nd rounder back. Nice deal!

Doubtful, why take one 15 second shift in the third? If he was being held out as a precaution, he would've never joined the team for the start of the third. In any case, I hope he makes a quick return.

They would've been much better off if they had kept Burke in my opinion. The Kessel move wasn't great but the guy made some really great trades for the franchise including picking up Franson for practically nothing.

What does Stafford add to the lineup? Doesn't seem like a big upgrade. Also not sure if there is enough playing time to go around once Franzen is back.

If I recall correctly, it was a salary dump move by Nashville and Franson was compensation to Toronto for taking on Lombardi's contract. Lombardi was having concussion issues and was still owed several million dollars. That said, it definitely turned out to be a solid move for Toronto.

A valid counter example, but it is simply one anamoly amongst a sea of waived players that never have value again (which is the norm). In order for Markstrom to be analgous to the Wings situation, you'd have to make the case that Ferraro and Callahan have made huge and unexpected improvements in their game this year. This is not the case with either player.

You'd be wrong. At most they would have "little" value, if they had more than "no value." What your statement implies is that they could have more than just a little value and actually become a material component of a trade. There is simply no way that 30 NHL teams are going to pass on a guy with serious potential only to re-evaluate the situation a few months later and suddenly ascribe material value to the player. If you propose a second round pick + a bunch of players that cleared waivers a few months ago, that is in reality just an offer for a 2nd round pick...and that simply is not going to get a player of Franson's caliber.

Interesting point, look at Quincey's numbers outside of a Wings uniform and with a Wings uniform. The difference is stark.

Why do people keep throwing Ferraro into trade offers? He cleared waivers this year, any team could have had him for free. No one wanted him. He does not add value to a trade offer.

Getting rid of Gus would be extremely dumb. Goalie depth is a very good thing to have and mrazek can keep working the kinks out of his game in the AHL.
