Even if he had a legitimate reason to blow up, Roy is still a ******. Nothing can change that. EDIT: Wait, I can't say the word "d o u c h e" on here?

Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena
SpiritFan replied to Ally's topic in General
When they design the new building, I hope they remember to make the seats more "fan friendly". We're not all 50 pound 10 year old girls! I'm only 5'10" & my knees dig into the seat in front of me. And the fact that I am, how should I say it, a little "wide", it's a hell of a process even trying to grease myself up to try & slide into one of the seats at the Joe! Heck, my brother in law, who goes to some games with me, is of average hieght/build, and he has trouble fitting in the seats! Just a couple extra inches in seat width & a few more inches of leg room would make a trip to the Pizza Dome a lot more pleasant than the Joe. The seats in Saginaw at the Dow Event Center are perfect... wide enough for us big guys, and plenty of leg room. Granted, a much smaller arena, but they should be able to do it. I have been in other big arenas with wider seats/more legroom. The Pizza Dome... lol... I am assuming this will be "Little Caesar's Arena" or something stupid... but what SHOULD the new arena be called (not a 'sponsor' name)? Wings Stadium? -
Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?
SpiritFan replied to CaliforniaWingsFan's topic in General
Chris Thorburn in Winnipeg. Goes balls to the wall every shift. Can chip in the odd goal here & there, can hit, can drop the gloves, forechecks like a sonofagun. Plus he seems to have good leadership skills. Looking forward to Brandon Saad in Chicago this coming season. If he plays up to his potential, he could be in the Calder running. Stamkos is also fun to watch. Brodeur has always been one of my favorite goalies. One of my all time favorites from back when I was a kid, Billy Smith. Meanest goalie I've ever seen. Hextall & Belfour were good that way too, but no one was really as awesome as Smith, in my opinion. -
Glad we let him slip away. Not like he would have been an improvement over Kindl or anything.

1st & foremost, we need a solid d-man with experience. Trading for Yandle would be ideal, Weber would be awesome but there's no way Nashville lets him get away now that Suter is gone. Matt Carle would be ok. Carlo Colaiacovo would be ok for a bottom pair player at low money, Pavel Kubina, although slow, is also a bigger body & can put up numbers & could be a good short term fill in. P.K. Subban is a RFA, and Montreal has been loading up with other playedrs, not to mention the personal problems he's had with teammates there, maybe we could make an offer for him. Not likely in a million years, but an idea. And since I am being completely "fantasy world" about this, Washington could use a big Franzen type guy... what would it take to land Mike Green (who is a RFA)? As for forwards, sure, Nash would be awesome, but I think Ryan is more realistic, and I like him just as much. But what would we give up to get, say Yandle (or Green) & Ryan? You have to give to get... do we give up Franzen, Flip & a bunch of prospects & picks for two guys? I just don't see Holland wanting to move Flip. My gut tells me there may be a move for a D-man like Yandle, and a free agent signing like Semin, even though I don't think Semin is high on the Wings wish list. But pickin's are getting slim!!!

THE MONSTER!!!! -
Being from Saginaw (and a season ticket holder for the past few years) I got to see Jake a lot. He has t he tools to be a really good goalie in a few years. He started this season a little rough splitting time with the other goaltender here at the time to figure out who the #1 guy was going to be (we had a vet that was the starter last year, who moved on). Jake clearly outplayed the other tender - so much so that the other guy was released! Anyway, once he "knew" he won the #1 spot, he really took off & played really well the last 2/3 of the season, especially after Greg Gilbert came in to be the new coach to settle this team down. He kept getting better as the season went on & was friggin' INSANE in the playoffs! Everyone talked about how he stepped up in the playoffs when he was most needed! I like the pick - Paterson will be good! And all us Wings fans will get to see him play in the outdoor game this Winter at Comerica Park!
-
I was just gonna say - Franzen for Yandle straight up! Get it done! Throw in Emmerton & give us a late round pick to go with it. Done.

I am curious as to why Plymouth season ticket holders would get dibs, but not Saginaw Spirit season ticket holders (which I am one of) since Saginaw will be the "home" team in their game at Comerica. I get Red Wings, Griffins, Plymouth, Leafs & Marlies... Sting MUST be a typo if talking about the Sarnia Sting, as they are not even involved in this. I am hoping that "Sting" is supposed to be "Spirit". Guess I will be calling my season ticket rep tomorrow!

You can clearly see Pane was just a kid in the hit on Gretzky's wife. A short little bugger. He obviously started his violent ways young. For as short as he was back then, he really matured well & grew to be a lot taller. But the hits Pane has made are very transparent - he is there to cause injury. But I also believe he just gets a warning.

Shea Weber fined for Zetterberg "headslam"
SpiritFan replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Here's the game highlights from TSN. Shows the VICIOUS hit Zetterberg laid on Weber, Weber's "minimal" response, and Bertuzzi's devastating suckerpunch... a little sarcasm there, but listening to that little no neck bowling ball head coach at the end really makes me laugh! http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip656565#clip656565 -
Shea Weber fined for Zetterberg "headslam"
SpiritFan replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Nashville fans are crying on their board about the fact that Zetterberg hit Weber first, but even better yet, they are all in an uproar over no discipline to Bertuzzi for punching Gaustad in the face (with his glove on, in a scrum, face to face, like you see 100 times in a game) and they are PUTTING A BOUNTY OUT ON BERTUZZI'S HEAD!!! Shea Weber fined for Zetterberg "headslam"
SpiritFan replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
So let's see if I get this... Weber INTENTIONALLY slams Z's face into the boards/glass with the intention of injuring him. There is NO OTHER EXPLAINABLE REASON for doing what he did other than to injure him. BUT, Z was not injured. So therefore, no suspension. That makes about as much sense as me intentionally trying to kill Bettman with a 9mm shot to the face, but if he survives, I should not be prosecuted, because you can't punish "intent"... RIGHT??? ***NOTE: I have no intention of shooting Bettman with a 9mm, I was using that as an extreme example. Plus you'd want to use something more like a shotgun instead, anyway. -

Ok, I'll say it... the hit that started this whole thing was a clean open-ice hit. Again, why should you have to defend yourself after dishing out a clean hit? Sure, the game was in the books pretty much, but I'd take a player that plays 110% until the final buzzer any day. Oh, & Crosby is a little ***** (I just want to fit in here, so I figured I better mention that! LOL!).

I see it as a great move, as long as Conklin clears waivers, to send him down to GR & play all the time. He seems to play better when he is playing more often, so he goes down to GR & is the #1 guy there, and by the time the playoffs come around he will be all tuned up in case (GOD FORBID) something bad happened to Jimmy or Joey. That all said, I kind of see a team like the NY Islanders taking a shot at him. Their goaltending situation has been insane all year & they have been using call-ups from the minors half the year. Ty would be an upgrade over some of the goalies they have used. Or a team like Columbus who's goaltending has been horrific, might take a shot at him. He'd be an upgrade over both Sanford & Mason (side note: what the heck happenned to Mason? He has fallen from top prospect/rookie, to backing up Curtis Freaking Sanford!).

So logic would say that myself being a Saginaw Spirit season ticket holder, I should have first dibs on the OHL games at Comerica. I will DEFINITELY be getting those (as will the rest of my group of about 8). As for the Wings/Leafs game, I will enter the lottery & take a shot at it... if you can get 4 tickets I'll buy all 4, then sell two of them for double the price & go for free. Otherwise, I guess I'll watch it at home or a bar. But honest question... are Red Wings season ticket prices going to be REDUCED next year to reflect one less game in the season ticket package? Same question for all the "home" teams that week (the OHL & AHL teams). And here's a good question, I think anyway... I am not a Wings season ticket holder, but wouldn't it make sense that if this game is considered one of the Red Wings regular home games for the season, that the ticket should be a part of the season ticket package? Seems fair to me! Honestly, the most fair thing I can think of is include the game in the season ticket package for the Wings & the rest go in a lottery. Leafs season ticket holders should NOT have priority for a game that is NOT a home game for them. Just my opinion. When Toronto hosts a WC (and Lord knows they will), THEN they can have the priority. I don't know, maybe I'm just a dick, tho. Also... how much can we expect to pay for JoeVision? There's your other option to pull in some extra money right there! $10-$20 a pop to watch at the Joe - they would sell that place out too!

Something tells me that Neil will hand out his own form of punishment next time he is on the ice with Ovie. Pretty dirty shot he gave. And the "What? Who me? Nooo... Really?" act from him afterwards was funny. How did you not know you speared a guy?
-
My thought is this... are goalies over-protected? Sure. BUT that is the standard & that is the way it is. EVERYONE knows this! So knowing full well that you can not take out a goalie like that, I have to side with Miller & Ruff and say that the Lucic hit was a bad hit. I think the ref's got it right, a 2 minute minor, that's all it should have been, end of story. Was Miller wrong to go off to the reporters about it? No way. It's good to hear someone speak their mind. It was good to see Lucic keep his elbow down, and he did not target the head. If it was a position player, it would have been an excellent open ice hit that made highlights all over the place, praising Lucic.

I remember Draper getting caught using Sudafed... yes, the decongestant. Got a slap on the wrist suspension IIRC. Doper!

I see what you did there!
