https://www.tsn.ca/sedins-close-careers-on-classy-thoughtful-note-1.1044626 Truthfully, I feel like I never got to see these two guys often enough to genuinely appreciate them. I hate to say it, but I feel like they would have been even more appreciated in the world of hockey and the sports world in general had they played in a better market.

So Carolina Montreal and who else in the top 3? Safe to assume Buffalo? -
Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

Has it started yet? Is anyone going to update us as it goes along? -
Wait - is really likely that Crawford's career is done??? I mean, that's pretty crazy if so.

Kovalchuk - Jagr - Vanek Let's make it happen in '08!

Wow I'm glad you said something - i didn't even watch the video all the way through. Could be wrong, but I doubt officials in other sports show that kind of respect to players! Ya, I know now what happened....I just felt that there was no mention of what was happening at the time, like we just kind of forgot about him until one day everyone was like, "Oh ya, Franzen's career is done, no biggie."
-
Am I the only one who feels what happened with Franzen is extremely bizarre? I mean, maybe I was just way out of the loop and didn't realize it....but I just remember thinking one day that Franzen had been out of the lineup for an inordinate amount of time with not much talk about why and he just never....ever came back. I just thought, ok - it sucks he's out for the season it seems, but he should be ready to go next season. And then you see him on LTIR the next year and i'm thinking....how the hell is that possible? And then casually I learn that it's common knowledge that his career is just done with very little acknowledgement....no swan song....no nothin. Does anybody else feel like this or was I just not paying attention?
-
Glad you pointed that out - I overlooked that! But look at the games for Forsberg -- he really was a beast when healthy, as much as I hated the guy! If he played as many games as Sundin he would be far and away the leading point scorer.
-
I agree. I think there is some chance - maybe not much - that he hangs em up even after this season. He goes from a 7mil salary this season to a 3.35mil salary next. Afterwards, he's at 1mil. I don't see him sticking around for that. Has there been any inkling at all of Z retiring after this season? Any word of him guaranteeing a return next season?

Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd

Ya, plus Fischer has worked in our front office after his retirement for like, ever. https://www.nhl.com/redwings/team/jiri-fischer -
No worries. Some days I'm defensive of Holland where I think that the rebuild is just a necessary evil and missing the playoffs and having bad contracts is part of the process. Which honestly, it is always eventually. Other days I'm like "WTF Holland....Trade Zetterberg! Trade Kronwall! Trade Abdelkader! - Sign Martin St. Louis out of retirement and trade him for a 2nd rd! - Sign Jagr - I don't care if it doesn't make sense!"
-
All valid points, and you're probably right. I'm just a dude on a hockey forum spewing stuff after giving it 3 seconds of thought.
-
Welp, Dekeyser and Helm both have NTCs....so either could've enforced them, who knows? Someone, somewhere ( I forget who and where so take it for what it's worth) said TOR was offering a 5th round for Glendening but Holland wanted a 2nd. Maybe he was trying to play hardball to get a 4th or 3rd....but I'd have even taken the 5th!

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks

Yes - The sun was in his eyes the entire time against Columbus. Totally not his fault. -
Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks

I heard Mrazek will be in net against Columbus tonight! The Jackets are streaking though and the Flyers are slumping....it'll be a tough one! -
Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd
martyrme19 replied to hankzet40's topic in General
1st 2nd and 3rd is what I'm hearing. That'd be a great haul - although I was not in a hurry to see Tatar go myself. Now I'll be interested in finding out who's draft picks they are. LV had acquired a few so the picks could be theirs or from other teams. If the 1st if LV's, I'd be ok with it being next year's draft and bank on their magical run this year being a magical fluke and have them drop to the lottery next year! -
Castaway (How former Wings are doing)

I'm more of a Bill Ranford guy! -
Wait, deadline for what? The season to start, or is there an actual hard deadline to sign your RFA's?
-
What is Nielsen's NTC? Is it partial, full, partial after so many years?
-
I don't often post on these boards but can admit that I sometimes ascribe to the camp of "Couldn't we have gotten at least a 6th rounder before losing player "x" to waivers". But as they continue to play out I realize more and more than this isn't EA Sports..... http://www.tsn.ca/maple-leafs-waive-d-marchenko-per-agent-1.829739

Nice! I'll be a frequent visitor.

http://www.tsn.ca/report-leafs-marchenko-signs-with-cska-1.830660 Agent says he hopes to make a return to the NHL but until then we will have to put our Cup aspirations on hold
-
Took a lot of years of less than mediocre hockey, playoff disappointment, and lost free agents to make a surprising run to the Stanley Cup Finals with no proof of return to get to where they are currently at. Good for them to finally bring out the check book to extend their current core - but I don't think they are the franchise I'm hoping we model ourselves after.

In my mind I was locked and loaded about to reply in this thread how we need to bring Yzerman in at all cost and how every member here needs to do their part by sending him a fruit basket. ....until I read your post and I was like s***....that's a really good point. Now what do I do??

Red Wings sign D Trevor Daley to 3 year, 3.166m/yr contract, includes NTC/Modified NTC.
martyrme19 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Sometimes people act as if Holland just didn't think of signing a 2 year deal....like it just wasn't on his mind. Likely, Daley's camp told him in order to make the deal happen, you have to make it 3 years or we are going to a different team. Any signing on the first day of FA isn't going to be 100% advantageous to your hockey team.
