May as well use him if he's available, I agree with this decision. While I don't think he should be an every day player, I thought he should have played more than he has this season. He's not a bad player, I don't know why he has been overlooked so much.

High fives and hugging aside, a lot of UFC fighters couldn't take that many bare fisted blows and stay on their feet. There were easily 10 hard connections per side that I thought were going to put the other guy down. Whatever on the display at the end, what a fight.

"Must Win" really means if we don't win tonight we are eliminated from playoff contention. This isn't the case. I know we are drawing close to playoffs, but stuff like this can be kept in the pre-game GDT threads instead of daily new threads. When it comes down to the wire and the last game or two I can see this being justified, but for the time being, let's avoid flooding the General Discussion area with new threads like this before every game, we have the GDT to discuss today's game, so we can carry on over there. I'm not going to rattle off on guys I know of on other teams and call them favorites, but I do have a handful of non-Wings that I really like. Patrick Sharp, David Backes, Cal Clutterbuck, Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, Dustin Byfuglien, and Tomas Plekanec.

I TOUCHED ONE! They had this thing at the Philadelphia Zoo a long time ago called "Wallaby Walk" where you could basically be in the pen with them. The person below me knows the difference between an alligator and a crocodile.

Literally all of them have tremendous consistency issues. Halak could never hold down a starting job, he is always in some kind of time share. Crawford was so up and down that he was questioned heavily as a starting goaltender after his first great half season. Hiller had two awful seasons and lost his starting job to Fasth last year just to pick it back up again this season. This is the reality of goaltending. Miller has slumped for a couple months on end. Quick has done the same. Luongo had an terrible season and a half which sparked the controversy in Vancouver a couple years ago. Lundqvist had an brutal start to this season. No goalie has ever been great at all times, all season, every season. Every goalie listed above has had struggles ranging from weeks, to months, to extending beyond one season. It happens. Roy and Brodeur, the legends of the position, have had off months and a few bad seasons. This is a fact that must be accepted if you are a fan of hockey. It's not an excuse to protect Howard, but if we had Hiller, Halak, Varlamov, Crawford, any goalie mid to high range there will always be consistency issues and we'd have a thread just like this one about them also. Period. No goalie is 100% elite at all times, all season every season.

Howard = Our starter for the next few years. This thread gets bumped after every hot and cold streak out of Howard. It's the same debate back and forth, over and over. The goalie is the easiest player to blame on the ice. Today was the defense, most will disagree and argue anyway. I wonder how much more original discussion can be brought up here or if it should be renamed "The Jimmy Howard Complaining Thread". Monster is injured, that means more Howard going forward. Like it or hate it, there aren't many options right now.

Nothing good ever comes out of a former goaltending situation in Philadelphia. I have no idea how Snow is still employed. The Islanders are like the disease of the league, no one wants to get near it, get caught in a situation there, and want it to be gone as soon as they arrive. The Yashin and DiPietro contracts didn't help create a strong foundation there, and I wouldn't be surprised if Tavares wasn't the next to depart. They need new management, a ground up rebuild, and a fresh start. The MLB has the Marlins, Astros, and Royals. The Islanders are the NHL's go nowhere, poorly managed pit of a team. I hope for the best for their future and feel bad for the fans who have stuck it out. Something must change for the sake of the league and the team itself.

I'd assume as it sits is accurate for now. When D and Z get back i'd think the top 3 lines would look like this. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Nyquist - Legwand - Franzen Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco If Nyquist, Legwand, Franzen line produces consistently I don't see it getting broken up. That would leave something like Abdelkader - Weiss/Helm - Bertuzzi/Miller/whoever on the 4th. Pipe dreams of a healthy team.

I'll knock out the one against the Rangers tomorrow afternoon. Also put myself down for the Leafs at the end of the month.

We can go back and forth about Jarnkrok all we want, but the fact is no one knows how good or bad of a trade this was for at least another 3-4 years and we can actually see what Jarnkrok does at an NHL level. Smith was supposed to be a future top 2 defender for us. Cory Cross was drafted 1st round 1st overall. A lot of times guys just don't work out, sometimes they do. It's very difficult to debate about a player's unknown future when it is so far off and no one here is psychic.
