Why is Pierre always in the running for being a GM? I think he might be a good Junior scout, but other then that, he knows the most random facts about players that nobody needs to know. If he was a GM, I could see him being as bad as Mike Milbury... However, I am all for it, that way I would never have to see his bald, creepy, cocky, repetetive, corny, annoying face on TSN ever again. Glad that Yzerman is staying with Detroit! I'd like to have him in the organization as long as possible, it just wouldn't seem right seeing him everywhere else. (Kind of like Bowman, but it happened)

Hahahaha I love that beardpalm picture

Sorry if it has been posted somewhere already, I looked around and havent seen it. ROMULUS, Mich. - When Nicklas Lidstrom took off his Detroit Red Wings uniform and unlaced his skates Saturday night, the defenceman didn't wonder whether he would wear the winged wheel again. "I swear, I didn't," he insisted. The 40-year-old Lidstrom deflected every question from reporters about his future after getting off the team plane Sunday afternoon, about 15 hours after his season ended. The San Jose Sharks eliminated Detroit on home ice in Game 5 of their second-round series. "I haven't thought about it yet," he said. "It's not on my mind right now. "I don't have a timetable." But Lidstrom acknowledged knowing the Red Wings want an answer from him before free agency begins July 1. Detroit general manager Ken Holland hopes to meet with every player, including Lidstrom, within the next two weeks and wants to re-sign Lidstrom. "We want him back," Holland said. "I don't know what process he's got to go through." Lidstrom didn't publicly provide any clues, saying he hasn't even privately discussed the options with his wife and kids. He has spent his entire 18-season career with the Red Wings. The Swedish superstar seemed to slip from great to good this season, contributing 49 points -- his second-lowest total in 14 seasons -- then his mistakes were noticed for a change in the playoffs. He wasn't a finalist for the Norris Trophy for just the second time in more than a decade. Just two years ago, though, he won honoured as the NHL's best defenceman for a sixth time to put him behind only Bobby Orr's and Doug Harvey's total. "I don't think I'm that far away from where I was two years ago," Lidstrom said. Lidstrom played in his 247th playoff game Saturday night, matching Patrick Roy's mark and trailing only Chris Chelios' record total of 266. But he doesn't plan to play long enough to challenge the 48-year-old Chelios' longevity. "If I'm going to continue to play, that's not going to be a goal of mine," Lidstrom said with a smile. Detroit's goal was to simply make the playoffs this season after losing players last summer who combined to score 88 goals, then being forced to compete without key players because of injuries for the much of the season. The Red Wings rallied to be the fifth-seeded team in the Western Conference finals with the best post-Olympic break record in the league, earning a spot in the NHL's 19 straight post-season to extend the longest streak in sports. That still didn't take away the sting of defeat. "It's always disappointing when you don't go all the way," Holland said. "Some good things happened for us. Jimmy Howard is a big story for us. We got a 26-year-old goaltending. He was tremendous for us (in Game 5). "It's harder and harder to make the playoffs. That's not the standard we set long, but I think we've got the nucleus to take a legitimate run at it again next year." Besides Lidstrom, forwards Tomas Holmstrom, Todd Bertuzzi, Jason Williams along with defencemen Andreas Lilja and Brett Lebda are eligible to be unrestricted free agents. "It's going to take a process prior to July 1 to decide who we're going to keep," Holland said. The Red Wings potentially could lose vice-president Steve Yzerman if a team such as the Tampa Bay Lighting tries to lure him away. The Hall of Fame player, who has only been employed by the Red Wings in the NHL, led Canada to men's hockey gold as Hockey Canada executive director at the Vancouver Game and has learned how to work in an NHL front office under Holland and assistant general manager Jim Nill. "I enjoy working and being a part of this organization and helping out where I can," Yzerman said. "Someday, I'd love to run a team and if the right opportunity came along, I would consider it. I'm in no hurry to leave. If something good came along, great."

What Was Your Favorite Game This Season?
WingsallTheway replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
The game against chicago where datsyuk absoloutely owned niemi and bert followed it up with his spin-o-rama...but then howard let in 3 goals That was the best game ive seen in my life, the action was non stop and i was entertained throughout. -
Ive wanted torres on the team before he got traded to buffalo... he is gritty and can score...one of those guys that Detroit needs, but it would need to be at the right price.
-
After reading up on this guy, I'm very excited to see what he's got. Is he playing in GR next season?
-
The only thing wrong about this is that Dan Boyle is a great defenceman, especially offensively...so he atleast has the skill to step up to the plate after a bad play. Williams is actually one of the worst players ive seen play hockey while watching the red wings over the past few years. You can see that he has good hands, but he lacks awareness and effort.

"But the third and fourth lines were still in question. Babcock said he hasn't decided whether or not he wants to win game 5, so is debating on to use Mattias Ritola again, or KHL-bound Jason Williams."

Detroit is old and one win wont change that.

Wow...thats a bold statement saying a team won't come back from a 3-0 defecit. This guy has some balls! .... -
Haha I liked it, but yeah in the future try not to make it so long to get to the dramatic rewind.
-
There was no way babcock could have played osgood when howard was playing that many games. The wings could not win with ozzie in net, and his record and stats proved it. They needed a push to make it into the playoffs, and howard played lights out all season. (You don't get nominated for a calder for nothing) Howard even played good against phoenix, but yes, he is capable of letting in terrible goals but I guess he makes up for it with his phenominal saves other times. Howard has just had a bad series, and im sure the pressure of the playoffs and fatigue has caught up to him. I don't think anyone is to blame here, it's just a s***ty situation that turned out to be bad.

Bertuzzi just has to get his every game penalty out of the way -
Why is everyone giving mindfly negatives? I'm pretty sure thats what he wants, considering hes bragging about it under his name.
-
haha I thought that was pretty funny, but definately a dirty play.
-
Nice post, hopefully this calms down some people on here but I doubt it lol. I'm happy to see that Lilja thinks that the refs had some terrible calls, so I guess thats the feeling in the locker room.

Ouch on the -27 lol

WCSF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Sharks 4

What an unbelievably bad play by cleary.. -
Glad to hear Holland is coming back, even though it was a given already. Don't think Yzerman will be going to Tampa, if he was he probably would be their GM already. He says "If the right opportunity presents itself, I would definitely consider it." I don't think that means going to somewhere like Tampa or Florida.
-
I personally don't like the idea, but it isn't impossible for it to happen. Assuming he signs for 7 mill, his salary would then be 3.5 for the second half of the season, meaning we would have 3.5 to bring in another defenceman. Defensive players tend to be pretty expensive and I don't think we could get in a good replacement on that price. If we did get a solid replacement, when Lids returns, there would be another odd man out. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Free Agent Guy, Erricsson, Lilja, and even Kindl is expected to get time next year.
-
I agree that babcock should have put may in the lineup tonight. Williams is by no means a 4th line player, and he doesn't fit on our third line. May would no doubt spark the team, and maybe even drop the gloves if needed. The sharks won't be messing around with the star players when they know May is in the lineup.
-
I never said he had become a worse hockey player by playing in a lesser league. I just don't think he will be in as much of a comfortable situation as he was before he left. I don't think it is rediculous to think that.
-
I don't think there would be anyone specifically that would really have a problem with him, but its still always in the back of everyones head. It would probably be something that would just be awkward at first, then just die through when the season starts. The wings are all business so I don't think they would let something like this get in the way too much.
