3/19 GDT - Red Wings at panthers - 7:00 PM EST

Yeah because hes a 35 year old UFA, and has no future on the team; and brings nothing to it now. Rather give his PP time to AA. Still think we should just stack 1 PP for the whole 2 minutes. -

Clean play...Larkin didn't fight it back and got lit up. Gotta defend yourself when crashing the net -

I swear Green gets worse every game. He brings nothing to the game of hockey. Also, get Richards off the PP. And the Red Wings. -
Not entirely sure Stamkos is worth the 8.5-10M hes going to get next season. He's a great fit for our team and where we currently stand, but that is a contract that will handcuff us in 5 years, especilly combined with Zetterberg's. I'm all for adding him at say, 7M X 7...but anything more and were looking at a bad contract in the future on a player who's goal scoring won't be around for the whole contract. Besides, when is the last time a goal scorer/point getter came to detroit and kept that pace? Stamkos probably gets anywhere between 60-75 points a season for us. Having said that, I'd be thrilled if the Wings signed him at all lol

Marchenko has gotten significantly worse lately. Surprising because a week ago I was saying how I've never really seen him make too many mistakes. Gotta say, about twice a game now I wonder what the hell hes doing. Guess hes getting exposed. He does have a great cross ice saucer pass though. Noticed that in his first game and he still uses it pretty well.

This to me, is the most important game of the season. Its very possible to make the playoffs at this moment in time, given the schedule and game in hand against PHI. Lose this one, and that changes drastically. If they don't win this against a bottom feeder, they clearly don't have it any more. I'd rather just drop in the standings for a higher pick tbh. -
Like I said, if were protecting Glendenning and Jurco we have nothing to worry about. Green is overpaid but our D's offence doesn't get any better with him gone. His cap hit is only for 2 more years after this season. With that said, we could use his 6M

I thought this as well but, I don't think its true. You trade Nyquist or Tatar and then lose the other one in the draft. Now we have neither, and we don't get much in return because the traded player is still eligible for the draft for the other team. I'm not even sure if we have anything to worry about. If you look at previous expansion drafts, no good players are lost and those were 2 rounders. Its also not uncommon for a GM of the new team to make a deal with a current GM in order not to pick an unprotected player. GM's in the NHL have respect for each other and try to maintain good relationships, especially new teams.

That is actually a fantastic rule and I'll have to give the NHL credit on that one. I'm sure the NHLPA stuck theyre noses in on that one

My picks: Mrazek Dats Larkin Z Abby Dekeyser Mantha AA Tatar. My personal picks but thats me and I'm not opposed to other's thoughts. What I anticipate Holland will do: Mrazek Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Larkin, Abby, Dekeyser, Kronwall, Ericsson , Mantha Hard to swallow the fact that these stupid teams have a shot at just stealing legit guys from us. Do we not protect Dats and hope a building team wont take an aging superstar on the verge of retirement? Do we not protect abby, who is overpaid but in his prime but is also the ONLY forward we have that throws his weight around and can play anywhere? Have to think it will be Tats or Gus going, don't see them both getting protected over our top end prospects.

Yeah I'm a big fan of the new lottery system. Doesn't play into the hands of the bottom feeders and it gives mediocre teams around the 10-15th spot a chance to continue succeeding and land an above average pick instead of floating around in mediocricy. This also works out for the Oilers unfortunately because they will be an average team for the next 2-4 years. This gives them even more chances at top picks when that previously wouldn't have been the case. Luckiest team in sports.

The draft lottery changed this year, every team in the bottom 15 has a chance at the first pick. Its not out of the realm of reason to go from 15 to say, 10th. Actually, at this moment we have a 1% chance of the top pick. WAHOO! Austin Matthews http://nhllotterysimulator.com/ Already cheesed at the fact the Oilers will most likely get #1, let alone almost guaranteed for a top 3.

At this rate, we can pick a Dman in the top 10 I'll take that over 4 extra games in the playoffs

For those saying we don't have good forwards on the roster, you are flat out wrong. When you look at our forwards you have to think that we would be scoring alot of goals. Something is going wrong this year because we have the same team but hypothetically much better with additions. Hard not to blame coaching. Can't score? Glendenning gets more time on ice than Datsyuk, Larkin, AA, tatar, Nyquist some nights. Down by 1 goal last game with a minute left? Glendenning is on the ice. Nyquist played one of his hardest games of the season the other night in Toronto, babs is still getting him to play hard and he lives 6 hours away. Blashill has inherited the win by 1 goal philosophy from Babs, but is nowhere near as good at executing it. The D gets 20 turnovers a game and our PP is the worst I've ever seen. We have 1 defenceman who can make a stretch pass and we try it every time we have the puck. Icing or turnover. We finally get a cycle going in the offensive zone and dekeyser quincey or ericsson lob it on net the second they touch the puck and ruin momentum. All things I notice as a man who doesn't play hockey. All of our forwards are 70% focused on playing defence. We have the wrong philosophy for our team, we need to open it up more and take chances; we have one of the fastest teams in the NH and arugably the most athletic goaltender. -
Theres been more and more talks recently (Especially today) that expansion is imminent and will likely be Vegas. An expansion draft would happen. Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 2h2 hours ago Expansion draft potential. Each team has option of protecting 3d, 7F and I goalie or 8 skaters +1 goalie. Expansion determined before draft. Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 2h2 hours ago GM's told expansion decision expected before June draft. If expand by 1 team, each team loses 1 player...if two teams, 2 players.Next step in process of expansion is for exec committee to make a recommendation. No expansion..1 team or 2. Most gm's think 1 team. Vegas. I really don't like the thought of losing ANYONE for nothing, especially in a draft to get in an NHL team nobody in the world wants.

Maybe Blashill is just like Pulkinnen... He can score in the AHL but can't in the NHL -

This is it, hes normally the slowest guy on the ice. Its too bad, because his skills are still there but he can't keep up anymore. Instead of carrying the puck he'll force a pass and turn it over pretty often. He's gonna be a third liner and sooner than later I'd say -

For everyone saying that no Wings forwards showed up, Datsyuk played his best game all season so lets not put him in this -

Been wondering why we havent been doing this for years. We dont have the depth to run 2 PP's. Its not nearly as tiring to stay on when youre playing offence, these guys can stay out that long maybe with the exception of Z. Larkin - Z - Abby Green - Dats Also, Pulkinnen has no place in the NHL, and never will. -

Its the system we have set up. Theres no pressure down low and we only cycle towards the blue line, even if we get a shot off its from the point and we don't even have any shooters there. PP coach straight up needs to be fired. I've never played competitive hockey and I can see what needs to happen. If were lucky enough to get the puck down low the PP is too spread out so theres no separation and they cant make cross ice passes. They need to take a page out of Washingtons PP and have 3 guys on one side of the ice and set up a one timer in the slot on the other side. We could put Green, Pulkinnen, Dats, Tats, even Richards there. -
Hmmm so he hurt his OTHER knee. This is bad, I don't think he should be getting top line minutes when he gets back. Fighting through double knee injuries is horrible, I hope he waits to come back until atleast this one is 100%.
