Sedin Twins Calling it a Career After Season

So, I guess Zetterberg will finish above them on the all-time Swedish scoring list.
  2. Yeah! Down with the Fischer hater! Rabble rabble!
  3. Lol, starting Coreau in this game feels a bit tankish...
  4. Someone posted the other day about the #of posts in the GDT being a new low and suggested we go without one... I just assumed that was happening.

    3/20 GDT - Flyers @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM EST (NBCSN)

Hey Svech! Hope that gets him going! So much for Howard vs. Mrazek...

    Bad Fans?

I don't think it makes you a bad fan. It's just a bad system, in my opinion. It's set up to encourage losing for the bottom third (or so) of the league. I disagree with it ("YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! HELLO!?"), but it's how it is and we certainly have no effect on that.

    3/9 GDT - Red Wings @ Blue Jackets - 7:00 PM EST

Is it just me, or is it really lame that Columbus copied Chicago and plays Chelsea Dagger after their goals?
  8. Bah. Can't watch it then. I wonder whose last game for Detroit I'll be missing...

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks

4th round selection = nothing 5th round selection = less than nothing Mrazek = 5th round selection 4th round selection > Mrazek

2/11 GDT Red Wings at Capitals 3:00 PM EST

What do YOU mean by "you people"?
  11. Sproul might have upside, but he's hardly been anything but bad during his NHL chances. Coreau has also been bad and saying he has upside of any note is debatable. Ouellet, I'll give you... even though he's always the slowest guy on the ice.
  12. You mentioned Coreau, not Mrazek.

    Development Camp

Yeah, it just sounds a bit Brian Fantana-ish...60% of the time it works every time.

    Development Camp

My favorite part was "definite possible" NHL starter

    2017 Opening Day Roster

I'm sure population comes into play to an extent, but isn't the pull/influence for U.S. kids to play other sports (vs. hockey being #1 in Canada) the main factor?

    Off-season moves

And they'll get Nosek back too after Vegas waives him.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

I wasn't missing your point. We were just (kind of) trying to have two different conversations. I was trying to get bogged down in whether Filppula or Hudler coming or going was a mistake or not. I understand where you're going with your point....I just don't think that's where Holland is going. People can dream all they want about getting Stamkos or Tavares... via trade or free agency. I just don't believe that's ever going to happen. If this team is getting another Fedorov level player, in my opinion, it'll be through the draft. But, I think Holland will try to remain competitive and will not tank. So, I think it's likely that Holland will just try to replace Tatar with a similar player if he 'lets him walk.' And, as a result, I see the past mistake with Filppula as potentially relevant in the current situation with Tatar.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Just because a player is not one that "you can't let walk," does not mean that you should let them walk. Filppula's contract did end up being a problem for TB down the line, but they were and are still in better position regarding Filppula than Detroit is regarding Weiss. Detroit thought the grass was greener (or at least as green) on the other side with Filppula. It wasn't. The same could be the case with Tatar.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Of course it's in hindsight. It was 4 years ago. Peoples' opinions four years ago about Filppula are not relevant to the current conversation about Tatar. I don't even remember if I posted anything about the Filppula/Weiss situation, but I'm not trying to say "I told you so." We know now that it was clearly a mistake for Detroit to not re-sign Filppula. If we're thinking that Tatar is an easily replaceable player, maybe the past situation with Filppula is a lesson learned to draw upon. And, I don't think anyone is suggesting that Tatar will walk for nothing. So, I think that's a different conversation as well.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

Letting Filppula walk was a mistake, though.

Tatar, Athanasiou, and XO's new deals

I can agree with this post regarding Tatar and Hudler offensively. Tatar isn't always the slowest guy on the ice like Hudler, though, so I don't think he's not as much of a defensive liability.

Ken Holland "We protected our best goaltender"

You're right - Fleury and Mrazek DO seem comparable when you only look at last season. Maybe that's not what they did, then.

Red Wings Expansion Draft Protected List

Well, there is also the bit where the GM (inexplicably to pretty much everyone) protected Howard instead of Mrazek... which is what all of the speculation is founded on.... because the goaltender protection decision doesn't make any sense without something like the Mrazek attitude problem theory. I guess the other side is the Holland is complete garbage argument... but I'm not sure that I've seen anything from the Red Wings organization stating that either. You're right that it's speculation, but it seems only natural to try to make sense of the decision. And, that theory seems at least somewhat plausible.
