If he can get stronger on the puck along the boards and down low (like Zetterberg strong), he could be a serious threat. Not that he isn't now, but I think that could be the one thing that puts him over the top.

As far as I'm concerned I help pay your salary, and thus I feel I have a valid say in the matter. Read up on hockey.

If there was no clock on the screen you would still know it was the third period with how terrible the Wings are defensively.

I mean... does anyone think we wont?

So that's what it would be like if Helm had hands...

But then Z's scoring level went over 9000 and now everyone loves him -
Its kinda funny, the fan-base has been dying to replace our aging veterans with young blood for a few years now, and now between whom Holland and Babs have removed, and whom the team has lost due to injuries, its veteran leadership and stability on the ice that the team could use a fair bit of. I believe the team that is penciled in to skate has the potential to outwork the opposition, score goals, play defense, close out third periods with a positive goal differential, and win at least 50% of their games. I don't necessarily believe that they disagree with that, but I don't see that there is a whole lot of trust in each other as a team, and Franzen is included in that observation. There's a lot of individual efforts that are being easily smothered out by the opposition's defense, a lot of hesitancy to fore-check hard, and a lot of collapsing too low. That's a lack of trust. And frankly its understandable, when you see Tatar, Nyquist, Dekeyser, Sheahan, Smith, Lashoff, Pulkinen, Glendening, and Emmerton having 566 NHL games between them all. That's collectively less than seven years of NHL experience split between nine players on the roster, or about half the team. The real question is, why isn't the other half of the team stepping up more?

If we blow the lead at the end of the second period, we have a whole period to make it up! Genius!!!

Don't worry about moving your feet, there Franzen, coasting is just as effective.

Just who do you think you are

I don't like how sustained the pressure is in the Wings' zone. They need to pick up the desperation.

lol at thread title http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/03/red_wings_aim_to_improve_entri.html This article pretty much sums up what you mentioned, Wings87. Babs saw it, the team saw it, and they've apparently been working on it this weekend. Groovy quote from Tatar: “We all know we got to be better on the power play,” Tomas Tatar said. “We practiced, tried to make some plays. Hopefully the breakouts work for us. We have to work way more. I think we have to put work before skill, just (get) a couple of retrievals; everyone has to battle to help each other.” The key from that was "work before skill". The Wings currently don't have the roster to out-skill many teams in the NHL, least of all the Chicago Blackhawks. They can outwork anyone if they want it badly enough, though.

That's a potential 10 points we can gain that the Leafs wouldn't have access to (assuming we win the head-to-heads).

Was Bert on the third line?

Is Tootoo coming up for a fourth line role, or is a going to be a big body for the top six?

GDT 3/14 GDT : Edmonton Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2 (F/SO)

The kid definitely thinks shoot first. He had probably five shot attempts, but maybe three made on net. Two of them were absolute howitzers during a powerplay. His highlight of the night however was an open ice hip heck against David Perron, I believe. Considering his limited ice time, he made his presence felt. -

We play solid against top teams... It's the bottom feeders we gotta worry about -

Alfie seems a little more inspired tonight. He's also shooting more than I can remember him doing lately. -

I've been impressed with Pulkinen. He really does think shoot first, which is kinda refreshing. I have to admit, I'm nervous as hell having him on the point in the power play, on the event a bad bounce leads to an odd man rush. -
1 to 1 Washington v Vancouver Caps are running away with this one, 3-1

So how many points must we take tonight? I've been looking all over and can't find an answer.
