I calculated it in the last GDT. The wings score like 3.4 when Gus is goalie, and 2.4 when jimmy is in net, or something like that. Gus has a slightly lower GAA, I think it was 2.6 v 2.5 maybe? They have the same save percentage though.

These refs suck. Why haven't the Wings been on a perpetual penalty kill? Don't they know that deception and subtle interference are 20:00 penalties?

I'm sure there was lots of talking, but even if these talks started two weeks ago, if a deal isn't finalized until the last possible minute, it tells me one side isn't happy with what's on the table, and is agreeing only from necessity. If Holland was truly happy settling with Jarnkrok, 2nd/3rd and Eaves, the deal probably would have been submitted sooner. In all likelyhood, Holland was trying to work Polie down and Polie wasn't budging. Of course this is all speculation on my part, so who knows what actually happened, but I still think the last minute deal submission is telling.

I don't know how much stock is put into Khan on the boards but I personally think he's one of the more reputable sports writers in the area. Anyway, he mentioned that the deal was finalized one minute before the deadline in this article: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/03/david_legwand_excited_to_retur.html Excerpt: "[Legwand] said he first heard of the potential deal at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and it was completed a minute before the 3 p.m. deadline." If that's the case it sounds like there wasn't much room for haggling. It may have been Jarnkrok, 2nd/3rd and Eaves or no deal.

Poor guy. The good news is that they're all separate injuries, so its not like he has one problematic chronic issue (yet), like Zetterberg's back. Hopefully he can get this bad luck behind him and string together a handful of games and keep the ball rolling.

That bodes well for his chances of re-signing with Detroit.

I agree with this. I don't agree with Jimmy not making any big saves while Gustavsson stands on his head to deliver victories.

I think it was Dabura who mentioned that the Wings seem to score more when Gus is in net, and that inspired me to do some research and look up the actual data. When Gustavsson is in net, the Wings score an average of 3.32 goals per game. When Howard is in net, the Wings score an average of 2.43 goals per game. They both have a save percentage of .912, but Gus has a lower GAA at 2.54 compared to Jimmy's 2.64. I got the numbers from yahoo sports. Its also worth noting that there is some overlap, because I didn't do anything special to calculate exact numbers for games when one goalie is pulled in favor of the other. I just counted the goals for both goalies for those games. Anyway, that's almost a whole goal per game difference between the two. I'm not trying to deflect the blame away from Howard (or maybe I am a bit), because he is ultimately responsible for helping this team win, but we have noticed the team plays differently depending on who is in goal, and the numbers support that claim.

Gustavson is like the ultimate goalie troll. He has horrible mechanics, terrible rebound control, loses sight of the puck regularly, and then has better numbers than most of the league. Mabus should photoshop trollface onto Gus OO OO OO formal request: and add "U MAD JIMMY?"
