If Kyle Quincey can score, so can Dabura.

It resulted in a goal, but I gotta imagine Sheahan is going to get a stern talking to for passing it to Quincey. He should know better than to take THAT risk...

No no no no! This is all going terribly wrong. We aren't supposed to blow the lead until the end of the third.

I just don't want to see another goal against within the last two minutes of the game

Patrick Eaves First Game as a Predator

It's good that he's getting a shot at keeping his career alive. Patty is a class act and a contributor. He deserves to play.

3/6 GDT: Avs 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT) Sorry Nick.

I just picked a couple up!
  9. I agree it would have been ideal to get a younger center, but based on who was and wasn't moved, that wasn't an option. Detroit was in the thick of the Kesler trade talk up until the Canucks pulled out. At that point the next best option became Legwand. He doesn't solve our problems five years from now, but he is the best option for success today. Holland had a choice to sacrifice a player who may (or may not) be a solid player years from now for a solution to our current injury problems and went for it. There's still several years to figure out who will replace our centers when they retire.

21 games to make it 23 years

I don't have the quote but it was said a few days ago, before it was known that Datysuk would be missing serious time, and before Helm got injured. During the deadline fury, some beat writer or analyst mentioned (or maybe quotes Holland?) that the injuries threw a wrench into Holland's original deadline plans.
  11. I'm pissed about losing Jarnkrok, but I've had some time to cool down and think it through some more. The Wings absolutely need a center now that Datsyuk is going to miss three weeks, Zetterberg already shut down for the season, and Helm and Weiss now questionable going forward. Legwand was the best fit for our team that was moved, and Holland did what was necessary to land him. We can all speculate whether it was possible to acquire Legwand for less, but we ultimately will never know for sure. Maybe another team had a solid offer already on the table, or maybe Polie was playing hardball. Who knows. If Eaves, a 2nd/3rd, and Jarnkrok was a take-it-or-leave-it for Legwand, I think I would have pulled the trigger too, simply to give the Wings a fighting chance to make the playoffs. As for Jarnkrok vs Legwand, we are losing a lot of potential, certainly. But we are getting a top 6 center man (who will be second only to Zetterberg for team scoring) with a proven record of being reliable both defensively and offensively. He's also able to help the team now (as opposed to three years from now), which is important. Jarnkrok, like all prospects, isn't a sure thing. There is no guarantee he even makes it to the NHL (especially with all the speculation that he returns to Sweden), and if he does make the NHL, there's no guarantee that he will be a top six centerman of Legwand's calibre. It probably doesn't make it any easier for most of you to swallow, so instead I can just post what our lines could look like should we make the playoffs: Zetterberg Datsyuk Franzen Alfredson Legwand Nyqvist Tatar Sheahan Jurco Abdelkader Helm/Weiss Bertuzzi/Miller Or any combination thereof. Any way you want to write it up, that's an upset team.

Edit wrong thread. The end of the season is way exciting when nothing is a sure thing
  13. Legwand will be our second highest scorer (second only to Zetterberg).
  14. I'm under the impression Holland has banished Sammy to LTIR until the end of his contract.

It'll be a few hours still before the dust is cleared. 3pm deadline doesn't mean much to those of us in the outside looking in.

Why did Franzen get 10 min game misconduct?

The refs were worried about Ottawa getting butt hurt if Franzen scored again

2/26 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Canadiens 1 (OT)

I know Bert scored and all, but he really looked sloppy out there. Also it wasn't one of Lashoff's best efforts. Smith and Quincey, however, I thought played excellently!

Our two biggest guys on Datsyuk's wings.... It seems like Babs doesn't think Datsyuk will be effective in the gritty areas tonight.
