timothy1997 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2006 I watched a little bit of the dominican republic and venezuela...and it was a good game. Lots of intensity and emotion. Rare to see that in baseball ever until the postseason. I am looking forward to the rest of the tournament. I find it exciting whenever I can cheer for the red, white, and blue. GO USA!! betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted March 8, 2006 I'm just glad the WBC is actually up and running. Seemed like it was always on the brink of collapse and I got REAL tired REAL fast of all this crap on who's in, who's out. Kinda reminded me of the repeated attempts at getting the "new" WHA up and running.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted March 9, 2006 The problem with having an International Baseball Tournament is the pitchers. The other 3 Major Sports you can do a Tournament pretty much any time, Baseball is different. I think it's a good idea, but doing it now doesn't make sense to me. The pitchers are still getting their arms ready for the season and will be lucky to pitch effectivly for 3 innings. Most of the time the pitchers aren't at 100% until early May. Today the USA/Canada game was like a Spring Training game. Both teams combined used 11 pitchers. On the local Sports Talk Radio Station, someone was talking about doing this after the World Series. I don't think it could be done then either, because the pitchers are totally worn out. This tournament has to be done mid-year, but I know that will never happen. To answer the question, under the circumstances I mentioned, I'm not interested.

Thats why even if you have a great performance by a pitcher in this tournament, the pitcher will eventually be replaced.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted March 17, 2006 Turned on the WBC today just for fun, USA vs. Mexico.....I'm surprised, the stadium is sold out and the atmosphere is pretty good. I'm starting to take a real interest in the games. It's the first time I've ever seen Derek Jeter at bat and rooted for him to get a hit instead of accidentally conk his own head with his bat somehow. The only downside is it's the bottom of the 7th and USA will be eliminated if they don't score in the next two innings. Down 2-1.
