Why dont the brass ever consider bringing Booter and Kopecky up and playing them together on a 3rd line? If Yzerman's gone, and maybe Williams, a cheap experiment with good upside?

From RWC:

Things are not looking good for the Red Wings and their ability to sign top prospects and bring them over to North America this fall. First, reports out of Russia were indicating that Igor Grigorenko signed a $1M deal with Avangard Omsk.

Now it is being reported that Swedish National Team keeper, Stefan Liv, is in negotiations with another Russian club - CSKA Moscow. Liv is expected to sign with CSKA within days. At the very least, the Russian contract could serve as collateral when Liv negotiates with Detroit and could make it difficult for Ken Holland to bring the 25-year old goaltender to North America.

Ugh.

Eh. I think this is just a ploy to try and get more money out of Holland. Liv did say that he wanted to come over to NA, and the Wings are willing to sign him.

To add a line on Grigorenko, he's on the World Hockey Championship team competing in Latvia right now. Ovechkin is the only player on that team from the NHL. IgGrig is on the 4th line. On one hand it's great that he got a shot but on the other hand, it's sad that this kid was first line material a couple of years ago. Anyway. He's basically staying in Russia for one more year to work on getting his speed back as his game is speed-oriented, and he would like his top spot back on the national team. Hope it works out for him.
