juice71285 2 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 I am first off sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this, but as you can tell I rarely post at all. First off is Kinley a Griffin signing only or did Detroit sign him. Since the Griffins say he was an amateur tryout. Now to the real question: Should Detroit sign the Donati twins once their seasons end? To me these two could be moderate risk for possibly high reward. They both are near the top in the OHL stats and it sounded like they did well in the recent tryouts with the Wings in training camp. I remember we did this a couple of seasons ago with Lebda, though he came out of college and not the juniors. That same year we signed Himelfarb, too, not sure where he came out of, and he has done alright, but not as well as expected. I think that Detroit should gamble and pick them up now, instead of wait till next year's training camp. Its possible that some other teams may try to pick them up before then , or the Donatis may decide to go to another team's tryout. They both look like they have good offensive upside. I am not sure about how they are on the defensive side since I have never seen them actually play. Signing both of them could be good for the two of them in playing for the Wings organization, since they know each other very well and know what the other one is going to do. When I play, I always find playing with a relative to be the best for me, since I know and they know what we are going to do each time were on the ice, and where to find them. I would also like to see Detroit invite reid Jorgensen back another year to the tryouts, since I know two years ago he did pretty well in it. I'm not sure how he did this last time, but I noticed he was near the top in scoring in the WHL again.
i_like_cheese_2001 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Having about the same amount of knowledge as you (haven't seen them play, but I'm impressed by their stats) I'd like to see them signed, if they don't get signed by someone else first...

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted June 17, 2007 I got a feeling that both of these could end up in GR next year, if they accept the try-out invite this year.

Their stats have my atttention. I also found it funny that that Tyler weighs 190 and Justin weighs 174. A bit of a difference for twins.

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted November 4, 2007 Quick update on the Donati boys; Tyler is playing in the AHL for Bingham/Sens has 2+3 from 9 games. Justin is icing in the ECHL for Las Vegas and has 6 helpers in 6 games. Maybe the Wings didn't like their size!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) Quick update on the Donati boys; Tyler is playing in the AHL for Bingham/Sens has 2+3 from 9 games. Justin is icing in the ECHL for Las Vegas and has 6 helpers in 6 games. Maybe the Wings didn't like their size! I don't see that as the holding point. The Wings are the smallest team in the league. If they were interested in 5'8 Jiri Hudler during his draft year, I think they'd also be interested in the Donati's if they didn't have problems. Something must be wrong with both of them. To put up those kind of points and not even get a look from an NHL team is pretty bad. Usually it does come down to the size factor (any WHL buff's who remember Todd Robinson will know that's why he never made it), but the new NHL has become a more welcoming place for small players. Those two certainly sound like an interesting option, but there must be some underlying factor that is scaring teams off. And I doubt it's size either, since there are even smaller players currently playing in the NHL right now (Hudler and Brian Gionta are two great examples).
