Hudler praise

Do you not get it? He didn't treat Williams or Lang or Sammy like he does Rex because he realizes it would do no good for the other three. They won't get any better or any motivation out of it. He realizes that Hudler has the chance to become a dominant player. That is why he constantly pushes him to become better. He doesn't want Hudler to become like Cleary was back when Babcock cut him from the World Junior team. Cleary felt he deserved aroster spot based solely on his statisticsand didn't need to prove anything else to Babcock. So Babcock cut him. What happened? Cleary, instead of working harder and pushing himself, felt sorry for himself and bounced around from franchise to franchise thinking Babcock just didn't liek him. But when he matured and realized Babcock was right, he woke up, started training harder, working out harder, practicing harder, and low and behold Cleary is now one of the hardest working players on this team and now gets praised by Babcock every chance he gets.

Trust me. This is good for Hudler. Just because he has a had a couple of good games these last couple weeks doesn't mean he should stop working hard. He needs to still mature and realize he has to keep working hard every shift in order to become the great player that he has shown flashes of.

You nailed it. Tough love. It's a good thing people and there is no way Hudler will not be playing in the post season.

agreed. he might not play all through the post season but he's certainly earned a shot at it. Babcock smartly doesnt want the kid to get too full of himself

I hope Babcock keeps pushing him hard and getting on his case, he's doing his job then.

If Hudler handles that fine from the mental standpoint, he'll figure out (or maybe he already has) that Babcock's on him so much because he can eventually become a really good player in the NHL.

Give this kid his due Babcock!

What bothers me about his lack of respect for Hudler is that when everyone gets healthy Hudler will be the odd man out when in reality either Sammy or Cleary should be sitting. Or maybe even Filpulla.

Or don't give him his due, yet. Make him feel under appreciated and make him work harder and harder every day. Make him want it. That's what makes good players great players.

I have no problem with that. But then why hasn't he done that with half of this team? Jason Williams is a great example of someone who needed a lot of kicks in the ass. And Sammy and Leilja need a boat load of ass kickings still. And yet Babcock treats them with baby-gloves.

I'm sure that there is a method to his madness but it would be nice if he spread it around to more than just one player. I'm so sick and tired of watching Sammy and Andreas eat up ice time that could go to players that are actually effective and useful.

If we're going to compare what Babock is doing to what Bowman did fine. But like I said earlier, Bowman spared no-one the rod. He went after everyone at one time or another. With B'cock, everyone's on the Love boat except for Hudler who's stuck on the dingy. Maybe that's a good reason why players like Sammy and Leijla, along with former wing JW looked terrible in the playoffs and in most big games.

There's no point in Babcock wasting his breath trying to make Sammy and Lilja better players...It will accomplish nothing...

I think they would benefit if he put them in the dog house once in awhile.

I think the point of WL91's post is that with Samuelsson and Lilja...what you see is what you get for better or worse.

I actually like what I see out of Samuelsson most of the time. The long shots irk me at times but at least he's willing to fire the puck on net for either a goofy rebound or a draw. I at least am not counting on him to score 100 goals, just try to do his part chipping in with plays in a 2nd-line status, so I don't hold him to too high (or low) of a standard.

With Lilja, let's not go there that much. Seriouslly, he's far from my favorite, but being the whipping boy of a sports forum will cause people to be a bit overdramatic about him. I wouldn't want him as a top-3 d-man but he's not as bad as he's made out to be in here.

Lighting a fire up their rears or scratching them won't make them any significantly better or worse.

There's a good chance, at least in my mind, that getting on Hudler's tail constantly, even when he's doing good, will make him a better player in the future because he's still young with plenty of years left, vs. Samuelsson and Lilja, and you can just see that he could just be a consistent offensive threat down the road if he keeps working hard.
