azshark 1 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Wondering if there is a sports radio station in Detroit that spends quality time covering the Wings? Would like to listen-in via the internet.
Matt 1,048 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 There's no "dedicated" Red Wings station, as both hop all over the place (this weekend is heavy on other teams as well, notably the NFL Draft on Saturday and how the Lions will screw it up, and Game 3 of the Pistons' series tonight). http://www.wdfn.com http://www.1270sports.com Both offer online streaming. Thanks! It is a busy time in sports in Detroit: Pistons, Wings, Tigers, Lions Draft... Last round, I listened to the Preds radio affiliate during the day, "The Zone" and they spent more time talking about Vanderbilt baseball. Awful!
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 Cheli's on WDFN right now. Talking about the Calgary series right now. Cheli says Dom is the best in the league, and if they don't leave him out to dry, he won't let many go by.
omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2007 I don't spend much time listening to 1270 but the coverage on WDFN of the Wings is very . Seriously, I think that station spends more time covering the Lions in their off season than the Red Wings in the regular season( or post season for that matter). When they do cover the Wings, unless you're listening to their dedicated Hockey program they generally have no clue what they're talking about. (Like Stoney and Wojo saying a caller was "crazy" because he wouldn't trade Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Kronwall for Crosby if he was GM). They do do occasional interviews with players, and Chelios was on every week during the regular season, but they don't really ask him serious hockey questions. Last round, I listened to the Preds radio affiliate during the day, "The Zone" and they spent more time talking about Vanderbilt baseball. Awful! Wings talk in this area isn't much better. I remember when the Wings were in the 2002 finals I still heard more talk about the Tigers than Wings. You'll be lucky to hear 20 minutes of Wing talk in 8 hours of programming. It's seriously that bad. My wife bought me an XM radio for Christmas. With the subscription you're entitled to online streaming of their shows as well. Nothing touches XM204 for hockey coverage. I'll hear 100x more Wing talk on that station (which covers the whole NHL) than on the local radio sports shows. EDIT: Thought I'd jot down the sports priorities in Detroit: 1. Lions 2. Lions 3. Lions 4. Lions 5. Tigers 6. Wolverine football 7. Spartans football 8. Lions 9. U of M/Spartans basketball 10. Pistons 11. Lions 12. Lions 13. Wings And people wonder why the Fords don't do anything to really make the Lions a winning franchise. Why should they? Every year they take a giant dump at the 50 yard line and fans come screaming in to see it. Lions fans are pathetic. Edited April 27, 2007 by Hank

Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted April 27, 2007 WOW, 13th overalll. Boy are you being optimistic Today they'll be like 4 or 5, since they were owned last night. The fans will call in to talk about how overrated they are and how they are tired of their underachieving and disappointment year after year and then talk about the Lions draft picks. The irony kills me! "The Wings suck! They always underachieve! Now lets talk Lions!" Hahaha. I've never seen such an ugly girl get asked out so many times. No wonder a lot of the Lions players were ticked off when the Tigers were taking a lot of the limelight away from them. I don't know any other sports team that can post a .200 (or worse) winning percentage year after year and continue to be the darling of their town. If only the Fords could get people to love their cars as much.

If she could put some makeup on and make it to the playoffs she will be the bell of the ball. Edited April 27, 2007 by Wings_Dynasty

Every year they take a giant dump at the 50 yard line and fans come screaming in to see it. Lions fans are pathetic. I just got a Siruis and heard their NHL show for 2h today - it was good, I'm excited. No more listening about the crappy Lions for 3-4 hours just to hope they sneak in Red Wings coverage - screw those stations. I've sent them emails to let them know - not that they give a sh87 because they still have their hapless Lions fans to fall back on. It really baffles me, do all of you folks that live in Michigan actually WANT to hear about the Lions ad nausea?? How can that be - it's Wings and Pistons playoff season right now. And at least the Tigers are not in the offseason. Who cares who they draft - they will suck, suck, suck anyways. WTF? the Lions are the WORST franchise in the NFL and there is no bright future - no future at all with Millen and Ford. I just cannot understand why anyone even covers a perenially losing franchise like that??

That team could finsish dead last every single year for 3 decades and they'd still sell, and all their newspapers and radio stations would be filled to the brim with Maple Leaf talk. It makes life hell for people who live in or around Detroit that care about other sports teams. Edited April 27, 2007 by Hank
sixer 37 Report post Posted April 27, 2007 So are you guys honestly trying to tell me the Main Sports Radio station in Detroit, whatever that is, doesn't at this time of year spend pretty much the entire day talking about the Pistons and Wings in the playoffs? So for example, 50% of day talking about Pistons and 50% about Wings. Why would they talk football? You have to be joking me right? Why would they talk about anything else?
