New line combo's

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Okay, now that it is really needed, but I came up with some line combo's that I think would be pretty effective for the Wings.

How bout this for a change:

Lang-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Franzen-Zetterberg-Sammy

Cleary-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Kopecky-Draper-Maltby

Anyways, I like these lines for a few reasons; Lang has been playing really good as of late, and I liked the way him and Pavs clicked on the PP last night. He's really creative with the puck *regardless of what anyone thinks* and he's an excellent passer. You've got him that can make the passes, Pavel that can do the same and score, and Homer that drives to the net and does his thing. Also, I think it'd be good to split up Hank and Pavs. I know some are going to think that's crazy, but IMO you got so much talent on the first line with Hank and Pavs that you may as well spread it around and have Hank center his own line. On line three I think Flip and Clears could really spark up Bert. It just strikes me as a line that could have real good chemistry. And then you have the checking line of Kopay, Drapes, and Malts. So basically in all four lines you've got someone who can score, someone who's creative with the puck, and someone who's gritty/physical.

What do you all think?

Its a good spread out of our talent and size, I like it, I might put Franzen or even Cleary on the top line and maybe move Lang down to second because I'm still a little nervous about the turn overs that he gives up, but that is about it!:thumbup:

I was thinking the same thing about moving Cleary up or even Franzie, but better Cleary, I think

In them "new fangled hockey sims" they'd say you darn jes' got yo'self some "line chemistry" ;)

That's what I've been feeling about Lang though--that he needs somebody else to carry the line for him to shine out there. This isn't a new thought, many people have asserted it already about his past years and how they compare to his god awful play now. That may be the only thing to get him going if he and Dats can get some synergy.

The Z and Fronz and Sammy line has potential... I could see that clicking hardcore quickly (seriously, you give Z room and WE ALL KNOW what he can do with it. He's quick with the puck whereas Dats will bide his time, sometimes for good, sometimes for ill). Although Sammy still worries me with his cycling and puck movement. Dano and Bert go together like jelly and jam, but I'm not sure if Flip really grounds those two to be a finisher.

Flip impressed the hell out of me earlier in the year with his initiative to take the body first when fighting for the puck (and seriously, these were some heads-up, smart as hell plays, when you think about it), but I'm not sure where the guy's role is lately.

Other ideas

Lang-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Franzen-Zetterberg-Flip

Cleary-Sammy-Bertuzzi

Lang + Dats are keepers. Z and Franzenstein are without a doubt--Mule's there for space/work ethic/skating ability. I think Terri could definitely contribute with the puck and grinding though on Hank's line, whereas Sammy lacks in some of the puck control.

If Kopecky weren't so rusty I'd say just toss him with Z and Johan to see what happens... but that's a no go. And I seriously have no idea what to do with Dano and the other two lines - Bert's invisible out there aside from the stray crushing hit, and Cleary's gotta be the most game-in game-out guy on the last two lines. I haven't seen any of the guys really prove their metal to me, aside from Dom.

Malts got a great goal and Sammy had that great SJ game, but none of them are playing stand out hockey.

Babs split Zetta and Dats in the 3rd period of the 2nd game. Do you guys think this will be our new tactic to get both of them produce also on the road?

I think it's really worth of trying cause they are too easy to shut down when being together and when facing that kind of Norris-Trophy candidates like the Ducks have..

Flip - Dats - Homer

Franz - Z - Sammy

Cleary - Lang - Tuzzi

I'd try these.

Ducks get the last change, so spliting up Pav and Hank is a good thing. Gives the Ducks more to think about. I would keep Hank on the top line with 2 of his countrymen, Hommer one and then either Franz/Sammy.

Could we go along the lines of having Pav centre Lang and Bert? Could be the move to ignite both of those guys. Not so sure about spliting up the Draps Malts and Dan line, they have been very good for us. Could be a mistake. That leaves Flip to centre a line of Kopecky and Sammy or Franz? Ermm, the choice is Babs lets hope he gets it right.

good luck tonight boys. Nick this one and put the pressure back on the Ducks.
