pjgj13 30 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 That Filppula takes? I have been noticing more of these as the games go on. In game 4, he was on a near breakaway and was slashed as he shot the puck and no penalty called (possible penalty shot?). After one of the 5 on 3 power plays they had (2nd one?), he was twisted around and fell to the ice. Should have been hooking. I didn't see many games due to the fact that I live in PA, but this kid is looking like he is going to be a star one day.

I knew watching him play for the Griffs (a benefit to being in GR) that he was going to be great. He reminded me of a Datsyuk with his stickwork and ability to strip pucks away from the opposition. Love watching him play!!!

pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 Dont even try to blame the refs. We had TWO 5 on 3s for crying out loud. so that's how it works, once a team gets a couple 5-on-3's the refs can put away the whistles??? your comment has to be one of the most ignorant posts i've seen in a while. i was at the game and you sound like a ducks fan, complaining about the calls for the sake of complaining. I tell you what, at the game, and now watching it again on the DVR, the Ducks got away with a lot! Datsyuk took a sucker punch from Moen (either that or a knee to the head) in the scrum almost halfway through the 2nd in front of disney's bench. Multiple hits from behind went uncalled (esp during the 3rd). And I've counted at least 3 interference penatlies that weren't called. Specifically interference when a disney player would hit a wing before the puck came to the wing. I'm not saying we didn't get away with anything, but some of this stuff was just plain obvious. I almost wish we'd start playing like the ducks... we'd knock them off their game if we were playing illegaly and only got called for it half the time. Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 It's playoff hockey, what do you expect? Seriously, the Wings should look no further than themselves for the reason they lost tonight's game. Were there missed calls? Of course, there always are. But Detroit didn't take advantage of the opportunities they were given (and there were PLENTY given), and that's why they lost this game. One or two more penalty calls would have (most likely) been one or two more missed opportunities.
Guest bullocks Report post Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) After the ducks took the lead 4-3 in the third, i figured we would have atleast got another power play. considering the hole game they were calling EVERYTHING, then it seems they put their whistles away. but saying that, like was said b4 in here, we had two 5 on 3's...u can't fail to capitalize on TWO of them, and expect to win a hockey game. regwinguofmfan 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 TWO (2) 5 on 3s in a playoff game and someone is complaining? Cmon, thats crazy.
pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 ok, this will be my last post on this topic because of the ignorance. we get a couple 5-on-3's and we don't score... somehow it's our fault and we don't deserve any more chances...? I'm not even asking for more penalties... i'll simplify it to this. if the ducks don't make those illegal plays that go uncalled, the play would have developed differently. for instance, if filpulla isn't slash / tripped at the end of his break away, maybe he puts the shot where he really intended to. So many other plays would have held different outcomes. To say we had our chances and failed is completely ridiculous. Check out the movie The Butterfly Effect and you might understand how little things effect the big picture. And, you say, meh it's playoff hockey, this is how it goes. BS! in this so-called "playoff hockey" they are calling weak ass hooks / holds on both teams. This is the "new NHL" and the refs have been told to call each game like it's the regular season. If you want to keep giving the ducks free passes and justify their illegal plays, go ahead. I'll be back at the real world. TWO (2) 5 on 3s in a playoff game and someone is complaining? Cmon, thats crazy. ok, i have to respond to this... I now see your logic and I am now on your side. This is how I expect Babcock to approach next game, if not, he surely would be using the wrong strategy... During the first shift, have Kopecky trip someone, ASAP. Then at the drop of the next puck, have Quincey hook someone down. OK, there we go, first 5-on-3 out of the way. Now, once Quincey gets out of the box, or the ducks score... we'll have Kopecky and Quincey repeat the previous sequence of events. Now, after 5 minutes played in the first, we will have given Disney two 5-on-3s. From that point forward, we will be justified in hooking, holding, interfering, tripping, and slashing the s*** out of Disney since we will have given them their magic number of two 5-on3's. If they don't beat us then, it's their own fault for not captilizing early on and we wouldn't have to sit in the box for the rest of the game no matter what we did. Nice call Reg, any way we can get in touch with the Babs and make sure he carries out this insanely awesome plan??

pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) your right reg, i just turned 2 years old yesterday. they still play hockey on clay courts right? i hope our tight end is better on sunday, i wish shawn burr would come back and play centerfield. Do you think Glen Hanlon could be better than Paul Ysebart at being the backboard? Or maybe Bryan Murray will lose his lisp and replace Bruce Martin on the postgame pod cast. either way, yeah, our boys blew it, we have to make some more 3-pointers from the 50-yard line. edit: i just saw some of your other posts about how Hasek is terrible and Osgood should be in net. That's good stuff, you should do some stand up at the comedy clubs there... my work here is done. Edited May 18, 2007 by pavyaz19
stevie for president 42 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 Filppula will be better all around than datsyuk, in my opinion. hes already playing penalty kill and when the goalie is pulled. he has shown more than talent on offense. he is by far my favorite wing, by far! i thought drapes or lidstrom would take that title when yzerman retired (i just made myself sad) but from his first few games, i knew he was something special. I love the lockout now more than ever. the cap is going up and teams are saying they will still around 40 million, but the cap will be near 50, so there goes the whole parity in the nhl, and now clutching and grabbing is coming back? great job nhl and nhlpa execs. get NOTHING accomplished while taking a year off. pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 I'm very fond of Filpulla as well, but I wouldn't dare to go as far as saying he'll be much better than Datsyuk. Only time will tell, but I don't see management signing Fil to a deal nearly as long as they've signed Pav. But yeah, no disrespect to Fil whatsoever, he'll only get smarter and stronger every season. Dats is just one in a billion in my book. (sidenoted: stevie is one in a google-plex... hopefully your a back to the future fan or you'll laugh at me).

pavyaz19 1 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 yeah crymson, what's wrong with you? didn't you know that in the playoffs, there is a limited number of penalties a team can take and then the refs just quit calling anything on that team? It's the way it works man.

Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 18, 2007 is that sarcasm? No. Crymson, you are a knob. Now your are honestly blaming non calls? Get real. Do you want the refs to make the other teams goalie leave the net and have them place the puck on the goal line so we can push it over? It seems to me you'd like to me to simply step up and "admit" that this game was 100% Hasek's fault. I don't believe that, and all the inane prankish posts you make won't change that fact. HC, take a look to see who starts this s***. Every post someone busts my nuts. I must not be as much a fan of all you "real" wings fans. regwinguofmfan 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 I dont feel like a victim, I know why people who have a clue about hockey dont post here much. If they say anything against anyone one the wings they get ganged up on. Not a big deal. Have fun thinking this team played great, Hasek is the man and the refs worked us. That is how you feel isnt it? Oh wait, we should have had more 5 on 3s this game and more powerplays. Hell they should have suspended everyone and let us shoot at an open net all night. You are right.

Excellent point Reg... now put your own experience of these boards to use and stay away from them with all of your own exceptional hockey knowledge. you will not be missed. if you come back, i'll lose a lot of respect for you since you won't have practiced what you've preached. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted May 18, 2007 Back on topic - maybe? Flip is also my favorite Wing to watch. A skill guy who playes his ass off every single minute and plays with what seems to be no fear in going up against anyone or to the boards. Man, he is going to tear it up some day. Actually, he is tearing it up now, but you know what I mean.
