kindlwillbegreat 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2007 (edited) That depends. If the cap lands at say, 48M, and makes it to 50M the year after, it could be doable given that Lidstrom wont be making 7.6M on his next contract. For s***s, lets say that Detroit does offer 6M to Smyth this year. The following year, the only guy that will be due for a substantial raise is Zetterberg. At that point, Drapers salary will likely drop by about 1M, and it wouldnt be crazy to see Lidstrom re-sign for a few mil less given that hell be 39. So lets say that Lidstrom re-signs for 5M, which I think would be reasonable at that point in his career, and Draper for 1.2M, that opens up about 3.6M and puts Zetterberg at 6.25, which is around the number hell likely make on a long term contract. It depends on a lot of things, but Zetterbergs raise doesnt mean we cant get Smyth. your forgetting about the other guys who will get raises .........franzen , cleary , lebda , those guys will likely get 1.75- to 3 mill each depending on the player , if cleary gets another 20 goal season he can easily get 2 mill +, we cant take the chances to have no cash to resign our guys cause 4 players make half the teams cap My facts about when Zetterberg's contract was up were incorrect when i posted that. I thought Z was up after the 07-08 season. I think its do-able now, because like you said, you dont know what will happen with the cap in 2 years. Thats alot of time to work things out too. if the cap goes down were screwed ........ if howard sucks and we need to get a legitimate goalie which will cost us money we will be screwed with the new cap we gotta think ahead Edited June 24, 2007 by kindlwillbegreat
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted June 24, 2007 ...there's is no guarantee that Lids will retire, no, but his contract is up next season, he will still be at the top of his game, but maybe he will take a little less in order to sign guys to help win cups. Odds are he won't go back to Sweden until his entire family is ready to go. If I recall, his kids didn't want to go last time, that is why he stayed... ...interesting side note, on redwingscentral.com the depth chart show Markov signed until 2008? Why are we discussing him as a UFA right now?
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 24, 2007 Markov is definitely a UFA right now LW, redwingscentral is wrong on that one.

Homer, right now only makes $1.4MM and that is until 2010. Bottom line is, Schneider walks, we have a great shot at landing Smyth & Bertuzzi with the cap increase & Lang going... ...and I really like Schneider, but I also like cups. Consider this, with Neidermayer cosidering retirement and Schenider STILL living in So. Cal. Anaheim just may throw some cash at him that we cannot match, so aggressively pursue Smyth, tell Schneider to give UFA a try and if nobody gives him what he wants, come back and we'll talk... Wings with Smyth better than Wings with Schneider... Markov is definitely a UFA right now LW, redwingscentral is wrong on that one. Good to hear!!!

Good to hear!!! im not even saying to get schneider ............ in 2 yrs we can have 4 players making half the team salary if lidstrom is still playing and winning norris's , we cant take that chance if we gotta free up cap space we gotta get rid of datsyuk or a combination of players , its crazy

If Lidstrom wants to stay around then maybe he'll take less to ice a winning team. He already is NOT making league maximum, he may take $4-5MM to help out for more cups. Stevie did it, Nick could foloow, especially with Steve being involved with the Negotiations... ...all I am saying is that it's possible and that is something Holland should look at... Guest Crymson Report post Posted June 24, 2007 whos the 2 huge players ? i thought it was just markov and hasek Yzerman and Shanahan, plus the goalie scare. Read it again. we cant take the chance that lidstrom retires or that we can trade datsyuk , cause if lidstrom stays and we cant get rid of datsyuk then bye bye zetterberg , unless we then get rid of guys like filppula and holmstrom .......as good as smyth is we have to forget him go for the cheaper player with less yrs on his deal like a bill guerin , put him next to datsyuk and he'll get 30-40 Sigh. Read it again. Sigh. k i thought you were talkin about the players we got ..........and whats with the sigh ? if you think we can have 4 players with 26 million total cap then go ahead go outside kennys house everyday holding a sign to sign ryan smyth and goodluck lol , if he comes here then you can be the man in detroit , and if in 2 yrs we gotta trade players to free cap space and they hate you then deal with it lol
