puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 3, 2007 If a contender throws that kind of money at Dom, I'm thinking he's gone. I hope not, Edi. I only see Dom leaving or retiring, if he felt he didn't have who he needed in front of him to win. Losing Bert, Calder, Schneids and possibly Markov doesn't really seem to be that big a deal, from my perspective... not that I am happy about those situations. I just don't see it being a deciding factor for Dom, with the core of the team in Z, Dats, Mule, Homer, Lids, Cheli, etc. intact. More money isn't what Dom is after, he wants another Cup. Detroit is as likely as any other team to win it -- we came so close this season, even with a bunch of hurt guys playing and the cards stacked against us. I doubt Dom would jump to another team at all, even for more money. He's too attached to Detroit at this point.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted July 4, 2007 I'll make a bold prediction: people will complain no matter what happens with Hasek. Fact is, the Wings want him back and need him. And Hasek, like it or not, is key to another decent season, never mind a Cup. He's not going to screw the Wings over for money, people are making too much of the delay -- for the umpteenth time, Hasek is doing nothing more than what Stevie used to do all the time: wait to sign until he knows from Kenny what the margin is on what budget is left after getting players signed on the roster. Only difference is, Stevie would get credit for such a move. Hasek won't. Oh, well... Want? Yes. Need? No. Again, goaltending hasn't been an issue for us. Sure, he helps, but sans our off year with Legace as a starter in the playoffs, goaltending has been the least of our issues. We'd be plenty fine with Osgood starting. Get us scoring consistently and then we might get somewhere in the playoffs.

Yet Hasek in net got them within four games of a Cup. I love Ozzie, but we won't win a Cup with him in the net, any more than we did with Cujo or Legace, rather than Dom. The fact is sort of obvious, but 2007 marked the first time since Hasek left in 2002 that the Wings got out of round 1. Hasek is a difference-maker, like it or not. Hasek's contributions get discounted by everyone except the Wings. Maybe it's a mental thing for them, but they need him back to win. At the risk of repeating myself - it doesn't matter what Dom does or where he goes, someone will complain and say he's a bastard for doing it. That's just the way it is, I guess. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) exactly how many times does hasek have to say it's detroit or retirement before some of you will believe him? the deal will happen, whether it's this week or next. dom will be a red wing next season. Stuff on Hudler's new deal, but same old same old on Dom. Why don't they just give him what he wants, or tell him to get lost? noon 7/5 Ansar Khan The Wings just announced the Jiri Hudler signing. It's a two-year deal that averages a little more than $1 million a season, nearly doubling his $525,000 salary from last year. Hate to sound like a broken record, but they say they're close on the Dominik Hasek signing, with an announcement possible later today or Friday . Another note: Igor Grigorenko wasn't able to make it to the start of the prospects camp Thursday at Joe louis Arena because of problems securing his visa in Russia. They're hoping he can arrive Friday and be on the ice Saturday, but there's also a chance he might miss the whole camp , which ends on Wednesday. Some of the prospects participating include Jakub Kindl, Jan Mursak, Justin Abdelkader, Cory Emmerton and 2007 first-round pick Brendan Smith. The camp, however, is not open to the public. PS - to anyone who thinks Detroit doesn't need Hasek to win, I think you're wrong. Goaltending for the Wings is more than stopping a puck, it's about confidence and the team's willingness to play with an attitude. The Wings were not confident in Cujo or Manny -- therefore, we go bye-bye in Round 1for four years straight. Put Dom back in the nets and they suddenly get better, and make it six games into round 3. hmm. Go figure. Edited July 5, 2007 by puckloo39

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted July 5, 2007 (edited) uhhh. we beat the preds to lose to the flames in round two in 2004.... just sayin lol I understand. You didn't like getting to round 3, game 6 this season? The Wings over-achieved to do it, and like it or not, Dom was a big reason they got there at all. The Wings played no more than 20 minutes a game vs. the Ducks at least twice. Dom stood on his head the other 40 to keep them in it. I'm just saying Hasek is worth more to the Wings than even Jiri Hudler now makes, considering the load they plan to dump on him again in terms of responsibility and blame if they don't win. Don't you think? People who believe the Wings play the same, regardless of who is in goal, are fooling themselves. The Wings themselves are the ones who want Dom back the most, I'd say. Perhaps Kenny will decide that winning the Cup might be worth paying Hasek something a little more than the joke of a paycheck he willingly took last season? Dom did it to prove a point, that he wanted to play, not get paid. OK, he did it. To expect him to play for nothing again is ludicrous. I am sure the Wings know it, so what's the hold up?
