T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 Some may bash his rumours, but he always has quality hockey related posts... A good rant, good to see that Crosby beat Jeter in fan voting by 3%.....

Hank 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 This is one of the very few times I've agreed with Ek. ESPN only pimp stuff that they promote or show. I guarentee you that Crosby wins if ESPN still has NHL hockey.
detroitdan 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 I won't even comment on Crosby-Jeter because all of us here know which player should have won that poll...I'm sorry, LT is a great player but there is no way on earth that he is more popular than Beckham...Beckham is an icon all over the world, he's sold 250,000 LA Galaxy jerseys without even playing for them yet! I'm sure Tomlinson probably isn't even that well known outside North America...I'm also certain that Kobe Bryant isn't as big as Ronaldhino either...this is typical American media, thinking that American stars are the biggest in the world...it's a flawed poll...and I can't wait to see when Tony Parker gets more votes than Federer, who is arguably the greatest tennis player to ever pick up a racquet...ESPN is a joke

If the same poll was done by TSN or some European site the results would certainly favor the hockey and soccer players!!

rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 (edited) What's so lame about this is that ESPN makes fun of hockey's popularity all the time. When the NHL finally gets a superstar with the ability to transcend the sport he plays, ESPN kicks him in the sack. Then they continue to ridicule the NHL in spite of themselves. Pathetic. Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 People, the ESPN please watch me Who's Now serries is not about who is the better athlete or anything like that. It is just who is the bigger public figure. You know who is now, in a rapper sense. Very popular. While I agree Crosby is a much bigger deal in every aspect then Jeter in the sports term, in America Crosby isn't even on the radar compared to the most popular player on one of the most popular (and polarizing) teams in America. Which also happens to be in the most populated U.S. Cities. Yes there was a close vote that put Crosby on top. If you put faith in it being 70% in the fans hands then that vote would have seen Crosby getting 36% and Jeter 34%. The final 30% would have gone to Jeter by these "experts" because they are the ones who designed this thing to get viewership and they know the rules. I hate to say ESPN is right, because they are only in the technical sense, but they only following the format they laid out. In terms of trancending the sport, Jeter tops Crosby. In terms of owning the sport, Crosby trumps Jeter. Let me quickly add that the real crime is them ignoring everything else in Hockey, especally when it is at its best. They think that Nielson is king, and nielson tells them hockey is dead. only 900 Nielson Families in Metro Detroit to represent 9 million people. That is why ESPN has no damn clue, because our country has none. I mean why else does quality tv keep getting burried under s***.
