OsGOD 3 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Somewhere Pronger is smurking "Hey steve, what ? you didn't have any friends in the uppers office... damn pitty son!" Somewhere McClennan is thinking "f*** yeah baby I did get off cheap!" ahhh the toils of the NHL suspension office... Dumbasses. Not saying the hit wasn't bad, just saying the are very, whats the word, NOT CONISISTANT!
Kutcher 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Absolutely ******* ridiculous. The NHL is so f***ed up it makes me sick. By giving him 20 games they are saying that hit was as bad ad Simons stick to Hollwegg's face? and that he's as bad as repeat offender Simon. Give me a ******* break. f*** the nhl f*** them up their stupid asses!

Not saying the hit wasn't bad, just saying the are very, whats the word, NOT CONISISTANT! Totally agreed, the league has been horribly inconsistent over this and similar issues. Hopefully this will be a step in the right direction for them, and they'll stay more consistent from now on . skacore 2 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 so if he is assigned to the AHL does the suspension still tick away?
mortsey03 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I agree, the NHL needs to be consistent with their punishments. Look at Simon being able to play in the pre-season during his suspension but Bell can’t where does that even begin to make any sense? At least this is a good starting point, let the players know that if you hit people high like this you are going to pay the price.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Good, now lets see if the NHL sticks with this type of firm punishment. They do need to take a stance that this type of thing will no longer be tolerated. They need to start setting new precedents. Honestly though, I do not take much from this, it was a very easy suspension to hand out. It doesn't really hurt the Flyers any as the guy probably wasn't going to be making the team this year anyway.

Details to follow. http://www.thehockeynews.com/en/news/news.asp?idNews=25917 Good job NHL Good. And I'm not just saying that because I despise this 'rat' but because it sends a VERY clear message that this type of hit won't be tolerated. I don't need to see Sid or A.O. sprawled across the ice the same way McAmmond was. Finally the NHL is growing some balls to protect the players from themselves. It may appear as though they are sending a clear message, but I won't conclude on that until they actual take action when it really matters (i.e. suspending a player who won't be playing anyway doesn't send that much of a message if you ask me). Hank 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) Well that sends a message doesn't it, he will miss about a 1/4 of the season. And I would hope that even a cement head like Downie would get this message. It's time for players to realise that the best way to get even is on the scoreboard. NOT by head hunting. It may appear as though they are sending a clear message, but I won't conclude on that until they actual take action when it really matters (i.e. suspending a player who won't be playing anyway doesn't send that much of a message if you ask me). Couldn't agree more. But this is the first step in the right direction. And I think the league needs to be a lot tougher in their suspensions in the playoffs. If this same hit occured in the postseason it should be at least half. 10 games. Edited September 28, 2007 by Hank
Packer487 3 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 So is he the first player ever suspended before he played in an NHL game? Probably the first to draw a significant suspension at the very least.

Correct, lets see them suspend Pronger for a 2nd offense in as many series in the Stanley Cup finals for 20 games. Not going to happen folks... this was a joke suspension... totally meaningless. This is a step in the right direction. Instead of comparing it to what Simon got and crying foul. Wait until there's another episode like the Simon one and see if the league suspends that player for 40 games of a whole season. IMO, the league has always been soft on suspensions so theferofe comparing new suspensions to old ones, which were light to begin with is not accurate. Just because the league screwed up in the past doesn't mean they can't set the record straight going forward. I think this is a good move. Suspend this s*** right out of the game and before we know it it'll be a dead issue.

Not going to happen folks... this was a joke suspension... totally meaningless. I think it still sends a message. Players like Latendresse and Armstrong will think twice before nailing a guy in 'death valley'. It might also prevent certain players from aiming their shoulders into an opponents face. You're right that they won't do anything to idiots like Pineapple head when he elbows or smacks someone. But these hits where players come up and into a guys jaw need to stop. I surely hope this suspension makes a dent in that line of thinking. Kutcher, there comes a time you have to stop looking at past precedent and start moving forward. Turkey 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Two wrongs definitely don't make a right. Simon should have gotten more and he shouldn't be playing in the preseason. At least the NHL got things right and actually punished this nut Downie. Let's remember, the kid is a repeat offender (suspended for more than 20 OHL games). I have no problem holding that record against him. The chump needs to learn someday or he needs to find a new line of work.

IF Simons had pulled that s*** after this suspension and received 20 games there'd be reason to spaz out. God forbid the NHL hand out suspensions that are stiffer than some past suspension for an act of different but more brutal nature. *sigh* This is fantastic news. Now we'll see if they continue to enforce these stiff suspensions across the board for headshots throughout the season.
