Need Some Help!

Need a little help, guys!

A new feature on the new site is an interactive map that will contain placemarks for all of the parking options for Red Wings fans, including shuttle options, People Mover, etc. The placemarks would contain relevant information like parking prices, tips for shuttle times, when certain lots tend to fill up, etc..

Obviously, I'm not the parking-option guru -- this is where you guys come in!

It would be a HUGE help if you could post where you prefer to park, how much it costs, whether it's a short walk to JLA, shuttle ride or lift on the People Mover, along with any other tips you may have.

All that I ask is that you be as descriptive as possible, such as the name of the lot, address/intersection, hours (if applicable), cost, etc.

Thank you!

Note: This is one of the last features to be implimented with the new site. There's a small version update due to the updated forums, and then it's on to getting the new site live.

Sheesh asking a lot!

Greektown:

Casino - Shuttle

Detroiter Bar - Shuttle

People Mover Stop

Old Shelale (SP) - Shuttle

HockeyTown Cafe - Shuttle

Detroit Bar - Shuttle/ Walking Distance to People mover stop

Cheli's - Shuttle

Hard Rock Cafe - Shuttle, There is parking ($5) at the Cadillac Ctr stop of the People Mover.

That's all I can think of other then Cobo and JLA parking. There is a couple lots around the JLA as well.

When I go I usually take the Lodge and get off at Jefferson. I park in a structure on Griswold that is never full on game days. It's a short walk (4-5 minutes) to Cobo from there and I just walk under Cobo to the Joe's steps. I'm pretty sure it's $10 bucks. After the game there's never a wait to get out and you can get right back on the express-way easily.

I found some more info on the lot: Jefferson and Larned Parking, operated by AMPCO Parking Systems. 500 structure spaces at $10. This lot is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Entrance off Griswold between Jefferson and Larned. From the Lodge Fwy, exit Larned Street, continue for 3 blocks to Griswold, then turn right (south). Entrance on right (west) side of Griswold.

Sheesh asking a lot!

It may seem like that, but the plan is to have this map be an interactive one-stop resource. Shuttles, People Mover stops, Parking lots, places to watch the game, etc.

Thanks for the input!

This sounds like a great service you're offering. I'm not a Detroit native and this kind of thing will be very useful to me when I come over for games. The parking tower at the Joe is easy enough to find, but who can afford to do it very often.

I believe the parking garage that ARICE89 is discussing is actually the garage attached to my building. The building has the financial district People Mover spot. I want to add that I believe that garage, along with the garage across the street, are not opened on Sundays.

I also want to add that there is a great bar in the lobby - 150 Cafe. You can get in either from the Larned side or through the building lobby. $3.00 bottled beers for happy hour every night -- domestic and imported. Great appetizers and food and a quick walk to Cobo. I think it's a gem in the City that few people know about. Enjoy.

Great idea, Matt.

I just asked a similar question about the Lions game and parking the other day.

Anyway, we go the Greektown way.

We park in the Greektown Casino parking lot (free when you validate at the casino) and use the People Mover ($1 round trip per person).

Coming from the North via I-75 South (Taken from Greektown Casino website)

# Take I-75 South towards Detroit

# I-75 South will merge onto I-375 South towards Downtown Detroit

# Continue on I-375 South towards Downtown Detroit

# Take the East Lafayette exit as soon as you exit take an immediate right onto Congress

# Turn right onto Brush

# Take a left into parking garage 1 just past East Lafayette

Information for those coming from different directions can be found HERE. My experience is with parking garage 1, so that is what I'll be referring to.

-What's nice about this parking structure is that there is a covered walkway on the 3rd level to the building next door (the one with Fishbone restaurant in it and a beautiful HUGE waterfall sculpture).

-If you take this way and exit out the main door, you'll be on Beaubien Street facing the Greektown Casino and the entrance to the People Mover.

-If you head into the casino lobby (formerly Trappers Alley for you ol' Detroiters) there will be signs pointing you to the Station (you do not have to actually enter the casino playing field to use the People Mover - so under 21 is a-okay). This is station number 10 (The Joe is station 5).

The train comes about every 10 minutes and takes about 5-10 minutes to reach the Joe, so plan accordingly.

The Pros:

-Free covered, secure parking (with casino validation)

-Cheap fare

-You'll barely be outside (good for Winter games)

-Greektown is well lit with plenty of security and police.

-Many restaurant options at all price levels for before and after the game.

-Easy access to freeways, fairly quick exit from parking garage.

-You'll be at a casino, if you feel like gambling.

The Cons:

-A little more time consuming than other options (5 minute walk to People Mover, 10 minute ride, 5 minutes to validate parking, etc)

- The People Mover gets crowded after the game and takes a little while (but if you stick around the Joe after the initial rush, it's not bad).

parking at Foxtown is 5$ only when there isnt something going on there. Usually when there is a non football thing going on you can park at Ford for 5$ too. most likely same wtih Comeria. If i take the people mover I park at Fox and get on Grand Circus, but since the shuttle I take that since its free. free is good.

What dos Foxtown include? Is it the parking structure off I-75 on the west side of Woodward only? Or does it include all the lots/structures in that area?

I'm trying to remember what the lot is that's out behind Hockeytown Cafe and the Town Pump, but it's been a few years since I parked there.

As an update: I've added the entire People Mover route and stops. I've added the lots mentioned above along with their details.

I'm going to add pretty much everything to this thing: bars, hotels, etc. So if anyone has good recommendations, please feel free to chime in.

Remember, the more details the better!

This is not what you are looking for, I am sure, but for me coming from up near Saginaw, I only make it down a couple times a year, and I highly recommend to anyone a stay at the Marriott in the Ren Cen - get your room, hop the People Mover & explore the city a bit. If you have time (& want to) you can stop & take a quick nap & then just go back down to the People Mover & head back to the Joe!

I always park Cobo roof. In 10 seasons of games I have only had problems during the Auto Show.

I find it convienent because it's close to JLA and also easy access to 75, the Lodge, and 94 (via the Lodge). Unfortunately late last seasonthe price jumped from $4 to $10. If I recall the lot stays open for 2 hours after the game (night games).

The Joe Louise parking garage is across the street from the JLA cost is about $10

If you're talking about the parking structure directly connected to the Joe, it's $15. Been that way for a couple of seasons now.

my gf and i usually park at the parking structure next to Elwoods, across the street from comerica park. We eat at elwoods, get our parking validated and take the shuttle back and forth to the joe. Hope this helps, I like to eat before the games and have the parking validated, i do it every wings game.

Compuware Parking garage. It's safe (Police dispatch inside), clean and the people mover connects to it.

Also, it's nearby to some great places to eat or hang out before and after a game.

Broadway Street...find parking right on the street or park in the Detroit Opera House garage for $5.

Then you can go to the Broadway People Mover station or stop in to the Detroit Beer Co. for a cold one and take the shuttle.

Thats kind of been my preferred way for the last couple seasons.
