toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 I forgot all about the HOF ceremonies are today and on my way into work (the HHOF is in the basement of the building I work in), I was walking by the setup downstairs in the foyer. Chairs and stage set up with the names of Messier, Francis, etc. up there, red carpet.... I'm 30 years old, but stuff like this just makes me feel like a little kid again. Not only will the greats getting inducted be here today, but there will be several other all time greats here as well, at least there normally is. I guess Gretzky won't be here though since they are playing tonight in San Jose. Not sure why it makes me feel like a kid since I have met quite a few of the greats in the past (Orr, Howe, Lafleur, etc.). And heck, I even bumped into Brashear (literally) last week. He's a big guy. I've never met Messier though.

Did you tell Brashear to look out for the "PAIN TRAIN" when they play us?

Did you tell Brashear to look out for the "PAIN TRAIN" when they play us? I meet the players in all sorts of circumstances. The older greats like Orr, Howe and Lafleur are normally at charity events. Occassionally, my company gets involved with this type of thing and sends individuals to help out (our form of charity). One of the events I have been to is a celebrity waiters luncheon. Basically, you buy tables and are served your lunch by celebrities and a number of items are auctioned off. The last time I was there, Orr could barely walk due to all the hockey stuff he was carrying in to be auctioned off. Oh, on Brashear, I didn't even talk to him, other than to say sorry (though it wasn't my fault). I just thought to myself, man that guy looks familar, but I didn't know why. It was a few minutes later that I noticed Washington was in town to play the Leafs (about 2 hours before game time), then I realized who it was. I was then wondering why he wasn't at the rink yet. Granted, he was about a 5 minute walk away, but I would have thought all the players would have been there at least 2-3 hours before game time.

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Cool, toby. I get like that around famous people, too. Last week, my daughter and I were at the Wings game when they were having the benefit dinner for the owner of The Goalies Den. I guess I didn't realize they were in Cobo, because as we made our walk from the Cobo parking lot, we saw Gordie Howe. I got really starstruck but managed not to make a fool of myself. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 Starstruck, hell.....I get that way around completely-not-famous people, let alone the stars. A few years ago I went to a Norfolk Admirals (the AHL team) luncheon where I had the chance to talk to a few players. When I met Shawn Thornton, I asked the question he probably hears every effin' day - "Are you related to Joe?" - and when he responded no, I said, "Oh. Uh....Can you sign this anyway?" Dumbass. He was cool about it, which was good for me because he's a big fella and currently makes his living beating people up for the Bruins. I'd probably revert to babbling moron status if I ever ran into any of the true greats.
