Opie 308 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Jagr seems to me to be the type of guy that you would refer to as Lame Duck. Where as most guys bust ass in a contract year to get more dough, he strikes me as the type of guy who would be less motivated (therefore less of a player) if he knew he was going to be some where for one year and one year only. Just my thoughts, don't know the guy just a read I get from him.

Just my thoughts, don't know the guy just a read I get from him. That's what a lot of people read, but I've never seen results of this less motivation that so many people speak of. The last two seasons in NY he had 123 and 96 points... certainly not bad. He has some difficulties this year adjusting to Gomez and Drury and not having Michael Nylander (Capitals) or Straka (injured for a month) at his side. I'm sure he'll finish close to a 100 points are above this season. And if you can get a 100-point scorer and Future Hall of Famer, then why not ? I heard so many people shouting for Jeremy Roenick when he was a free agent this summer... then we should definately want Jaromir Jagr,...
Opie 308 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 interminded I see your point, even if he is not motivated he is an almost guaranteed 90 pts. I still go back to my original post about Z, Salary cap, and age as reasons I wouldn't want him. BTW I never wanted Roenick as a wing, I wanted him to find a team to get his 500th, but that was about it.
DEVILSWATERBOY 10 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 My opinoin is hell no save the cash and try getting O V from the Caps
Opie 308 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 No way in the world a salary cap era team can afford to have Ovechkin, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Rafalski, and Lidstrom, let alone carry those contracts and try to develop young talent. As young talent develops it becomes more costly, to get those 5 on your roster you are talking about at least 35 mil of the cap gone right there. That is not even mentioning the draft picks that would have to be given up to get AO off of RFA status. That gives you roughly 15 mil to get 15 more players at minimum. This team would be one line (the most devastating line in the history of the NHL) and one D pairing, then a s*** load of young unproven talent. You may be able to surround those guys with a bunch of Drake, Downey type journey men but I doubt it even then. This team is going to need the scouts more than ever now, all teams will. The wings will have to build around Z, Dats, Ralf, Lids (while he is still playing) use the likes of Cheli, Ozzie, Drake, Draper, and Homer to help build and strengthen the young guys like Flip, Huds, Grigo... (sorry about that, damn IT), Howard, Meech, Kindl, and hope that the middle of the road guys Kronwall, Lilja, Lebda can some how luck into being more than just role players. Z and Dats are young and apparently very happy playing together and in Detroit. Market them to the fans, make them the face of the Org.

Opie 308 Report post Posted November 29, 2007 Would Jagr really want to sign for 3-4 mil a year when he can and probably will get twice that on the free market? If that is the case and we can get Jagr for Bertuzzi money than I am all for it, but that is unrealistic so I will stick with my no answer.
