BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 With all due respect, eva, but I find it hard and odd to include Joe Malone in any all time lists. I mean he was good, but his era was also weird. It was like basketball sometimes, scoring was back and forth. Him averaging 1.5-2 goals/per game was the best at the time, but... I don't even know how to explain it. His career was from 1917-1924, an era that hockey wasn't even really hockey. Trust me, I know, I'm 108 years old.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Richter was an elite goaltender. It surprises me that so many people here don't acknowledge that, and yet most of us got to see him play. He was almost never out of position. Is reflexes were Lundqvist-esque. He had respectable stats while playing with the 90s Rangers. That's terrific. Vanbiesbrouck and Barrasso were both better than Richter, and that's just among American goaltenders.
interminded 1 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Vanbiesbrouck and Barrasso were both better than Richter, and that's just among American goaltenders. Why are Beezer and Barrasso better exactly ? Because both have a Vezina and Richter hasn't ? Mike Richter was MVP for several seasons in New York on a very mediocre team. Besides that, his career stats are way better than Beezer's or Barrasso's. However, that (better stats) doesn't make him a better goaltender than B and B. IMHO, those three are on the same level of goaltending. There isn't one who really stands out.

Beezer, Barrasso, and Richter all kinda stunk, but Richter most of all. Only reason anyone ever talks about him is because he is the only half-decent American born goalie in some time. However, Richter was NEVER NY's mvp, I'd say Leech took that honor most of the time.

Richter's best season was 90-91, when he received one first place, one second place, and four third place Vezina votes. 1993-93, when he received one second place and five third place votes, was the only other season he was named on more than two ballots and the only time he received a first or second place vote. Beezer accomplished that feat eight times, winning a Vezina in 86, being named a finalist in 1996, and challenging several other seasons. Barrasso did it five times, being named a finalist five times, winning once and finishing second three times. Barrasso also won two Cups as starter on weaker teams than Richter's early 90s Rangers teams. Richter is clearly behind those two in terms of both peak performance and average performance. And BTW..Richter doesn't have better stats than the other guys. The numbers look similar, but Richter didn't begin his career in the early 80s like B and B.
