Yes we need to make a move. When you have the space, and a good core intact, theres no reason not to make a move that can make a great team even harder to beat.

If we dont add another scorer, and we come within a couple games of the Stanley Cup, but we cant score the goals to take us the extra mile, it would be an embarassment.

There will be deals to be had at the deadline, impact player or not. You can never have too much depth.

Agreed.

And as good as the team's been playing right now, some questions need to be asked.

1. Is a 2nd line of Hudler-Filpulla-Sammy big enough, and experienced enough to get this team through 4 playoff rounds.

2. Is the defensive depth good enough to win 4 rounds. (Lidstom and Rafalski can't play 27 minutes a night for for rounds)

Alot of this can be addressed by augmenting the power play and adding a guy like Hal Gill to the back end. Seriously.

Depends on who is available and what the asking price for them is. I think Holland would be perfectly comfortable letting things ride as they are, but if the right player comes up he'll put feelers out and see if we can get him for the right price.

What I don't see right now is any sort of big blockbuster deal going down.

Lets see......nope. Adding Sundin or any other senior citizen will do nothing but take away ice time from Filpulla, Hudler, and the rest of the young guys. If Holland and Babcock believe Filpulla and Hudler are the next gen., keep them on the ice instead of adding a veteran that messes up chemistry and is gone after one season. Also, the power play is back at the top of the league and its the reason the wings are at the top of the league in scoring. I wouldn't worry about the offense.

The wings haven't made a big deadline deal in a while because with top of the line scouts they don't need to. If anything they should pick up a journeyman defenseman because of what happened last season with defensive injuries.

Keep in mind they need cap space to sign Zetterberg and Lidstrom to presumably record contracts.

Regular season performance, especially this early in the year, is very misleading. The Wings do not have good depth and they do not have the proper components needed to build a championship team. A President's Trophy is nice, I guess, but I'd trade ten of them for one Stanley Cup.
