So, who do you think Kenny will go after, IM? Maybe a veteran to back up Ozzie? I do believe, win or lose, this is going to be Dom's last season.

First of all, I think Ozzie will sign a 2 year, perhaps even 3 year, deal with the Red Wings.

Besides that, I really wouldn't be suprised if Dom signs for another year.

He still likes to compete, he's still eager.

However, much depends on the outcome of this season.

If the Wings win the SC, Dom will retire a happy man, that's for sure.

I do imagine he'll be on the team next year, assuming this is Hasek's final season. Jimmy's not gonna get any more out of the AHL, and the organization just isn't going to give up on the best goaltending prospect they've had in such a long time. I think it would make sense to have him as Ozzie's back-up in the hopes that some NHL experience will help his development.

Re-signing Ozzie for around 2 or 3 years would be a very good idea, IMO. But if the organization plans on making him the starting goaltender (I don't think there's many better options out there), he's gotta get at least 2 million a season, quite possibly more.

Same bodies, different level of play. The Wings themselves admit they're playing better now than they did earlier in the season when Hasek was in net, before the hip injury. Dom got a tough start, it doesn't necessarily define the rest of his season - no more than Ozzie's great start guarantees that level of play for the rest of the season in his case. But we can hope for that!

I still think it's a little early to decide right now who is going to play all the playoff games. I don't see the problem with the tandem arrangement they're working with now. Both goalies are contributing to wins.

I really, really don't want this thread to delude into another pissing contest between Ozzy and Dom supporter... I agree 100% that its too soon to decide for playoffs, but right now Osgood is unstoppable. That may change. As far as the team playing better in front of one than the other, its been said a million times, but the stats say otherwise. Ozzy is seeing many more shots than Dom per game and allowing much fewer goals, thus his save percentage second in the NHL. I've always said GAA is more of a team stat than a pure goaltender stat, but its hard to fake a .928 save percentage...

2-3 years, $1.5-2M. Anywhere in there would make me more than a happy camper.

The nice thing about that deal is, if Osgood does have an off year or does start to cool off in the 2nd or 3rd year of a new contract, hed be cheap enough for us to find another decent vet to go along with him. Win-win situation in my eyes.

Correct... I want Howard up next season, BUT i feel he would best be suited to get the next level in his training as an NHL backup... Very seldom do you come right into the league and become starter... usually you are someones backup first.

Ozzie/Howard '08 and beyond

and to comment on Ozzie perhaps cooling off because he just has to... Somewhere along the lines of a Bowlers 300 game... people say hey there is no way he can keep this pace up... 12 strikes... IN A ROW?... no way he has to cool off stumble along the way. Well 300 games exist and more frequenty that we know. Who is to say that this is not Ozzie chance at finishing out his best season of his career on top? Surely not Chelios or Chuck Norris
