Earlier in the season, the Chicago Blackhawks had been trying to acquire a powerplay specialist but came up empty

The Blackhawks and Ducks appear to be involved in heavy negotiations over a possible trade involving defenseman Mathieu Schneider, TFP has learned.

Trade talks between the Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks appear to be on the bubble, as Chicago may not be willing to add Mathieu Schneider's salary to their payroll

Just Found Out Devils Would Love To Have Schneider

With the Ducks continuing their attempts to shed some salary, the New Jersey Devils appear to be interested in one of their players, reports the Orange County Register.

According to the paper, the Devils have supposedly set their sights on veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider.

The Ducks are trying to dump some salary to not only fit Scott Niedermayer's deal under the cap for next season, but to try and make some room to re-sign Corey Perry, who will become a restricted free agent after this season.

New Jersey has played extremely well of late. They lost last night, but that was the Devils' first regulation loss in their last 11 games.

The Devils have just over $3 million in available cap space.

I read somewhere Chicago probably won't sign him because his contract is too expensive, his age, and they're looking to persue a young free agent this off-season and they don't want to be stuck with the remaining years on his contract. I could see it happening but I wonder what they'd give up. Maybe Ruutu and a pick, if Selanne isn't coming back, which would screw us on both ends.

The Ducks definitely wouldnt get anyone like Ruutu for Schneider. Its not going to be much more than a mid-grade prospect and a 5th or 6th rd draft pick.

Why would Chicago want Schneider? They lead the league in goals from d-men.

And his addition would just take ice-time away from their core youngsters who need to play big minutes to continue their development.

It was rumored Chi wanted to dump Ruutu because he wasn't producing. I don't see it happening anyway.

If thats the case, they could move Ruutu somewhere else in a different deal. My point being, that given the combination of Anaheim being overloaded on defense (and teams knowing this) and Schneider making a ton....it would not take that much for Chicago to get him. He wont be completely given away, but it wont cost much especially if Selanne wants to come back. Hell i could see them just taking on Lapointe for him, if this is his last year under contract.
