Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Too much. I think they really jumped the gun on this one. Sure he has 21 goals now, but would anybody be really be surprised if he still ended up with 30 or less? A 5 year 5 million commitment for this guy is a big time reach imo. FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 He's been good this season,so no surprise Hull wanted to lock him up. I guess $ 5 million/year is a good price.

Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted January 8, 2008 No surprise here. Ribeiro has been a scoring machine. Even at 5 mil per year, it's a good signing for the Stars.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Good signing for Dallas. He's producing and is still young.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 This is his first ever stand out season, and it's only halfway through. I don't think that kind of commitment is a great idea.
Rice 42 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Enh, decent signing. If he keeps up the pace and improves on it over the course of the deal it could end up being a big bargain -- but the guy has averaged around 60 points since becoming a full-time NHL'er. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 He's their best forward right now, and Modano and Zubov aren't getting any younger, so it's not a bad move.

This is his first ever stand out season, and it's only halfway through. I don't think that kind of commitment is a great idea. Good contract..for him Bingo. $5million a year is a big risk. Lots of NHL players have had great half seasons coupled with 3 mediocre seasons. That's a ton of money for a 60 pt player. However, if he was scoring like that for a full year, with the current salary situation in the NHL, it would actually seem pretty tame.

daniel1 32 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Too much. If he's worth 5mil per, what's Z worth? 10? 12? I think they panicked cause Modo's gettin old and Morrow's injured a lot. I don't like the trend GM's are on... Richards contract was too much, Gomez, Drury same thing. At this rate they're headed for another lockout. BTW, the Osgood signing was tremendous; if everyone had the same loyalty/attitude Ozzie has the lockout never would have happened. I mean how much money do you REALLY need to live comfortably and provide for your family? If the average Joe can get by on 100,000$ or less per year, then 1 or 2 MILLION should satisfy ALL pro athletes.
