Shoot Out skills competition to be judged now?

I don't watch the skills competition or the game, so it doesn't bother me what they do there. I'm the same for the other 3 sports, I usually pass on All-Star games/festivities.

- Puck-control relay (team and singles)

- Shot Accuracy

- Fastest Skater

- Hardest Shot

- Breakaway Relay

The End. Satisfying competition.

Unfortunatly that is not satisfying to the below average fan. Or to new fans. The allstar compitition has always been dull for people that know little or have little interest. On the other hand the dunk competition is watched by not only NBA fans but the average joe. Thus bringing more attention to the sport.

I am not against change, in fact I encourage it. It gets very frustrating to not have many people to talk about the Wings and hockey about. Hell most people snicker when the see how big a fan I am. Would it not be nice to be able to actually talk about hockey in person with people and not always via the forum. The NHL is just trying to spice stuff up, it will probably suck but I am excited that they are trying.

A fight competition might sound interesting, but staged fights are no fun, and there's no sense risking injury like that at the All-Star Game.

Well, it's not like the all-star hockey fighters are guys their teams would really miss that much.

I dont mind any of the changes, with the exception of the fastest skater. I like the way it is done around the rink, not this new head to head style. Oh well, win some loose some. I'm happy to see it shaken up.

So for the shoutout skills ... 3 players per conference. Who do you guys think will get the nominations? I'll take another look at the rosters, but I think it's a given Dats will be one.

The last time Datsyuk was in the all star shootout I believe all he did was shoot. I think he should throw away all his humbleism for one day, even at the expense of the goaltenders respective dignities, so that we can see what else he has up his sleeve. I was reading something on Datsyuk that said in practice he used 10 different dekes on 10 different tries and he was 10 for 10.

Those are my guesses.

I like the new format. Get the goalies involved with the goal attempt and break the shoot out rules with the ability to lift the puck off the ice. I am excited to see what Pavel can do outside the rules
