Viperar 16 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 No kidding, it would be a little different had the Wings actually traded Green to the Caps. They traded the pick, there is nothing to say they would have even selected him with their 29th overall pick. true but one can speculate, we do it a lot on here
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted January 14, 2008 His offensive skills look really promising. But his defensive skills are still a little lacking. I don't think he will ever be a superstar in this league. But I definitely think he has the potential to be an above average offensive defenseman. Sorta sucks knowing we gave this guy up. But at the time, we were all stoked to get a guy like Robert Lang(who, at the time, was battling for most points in the LEAGUE). Can't blame Kenny for thinking that was a great trade. Cause at the time, most of us thought so too.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 Weird, i didnt see this that way at all. In his initial post which you quoted it more makes it seem the deal was bad, not lang. I see this thread geared more toward announcing green's achievements and making a name for himself here in DC. might just be different styles of reading the post harold how can the deal be bad without Lang being bad? Because it seems pretty clear he thinks Green is looking good (as the thread is titled). So for it to be a bad deal, it would mean we gave up something good (Green) to get something bad (Lang). No? Hank said that wasn't his intent, so I misunderstood him. But I don't think it was a huge leap on my part to arrive at the conclusion I did. And even his intent aside, it seemed like the net result is going to be another Lazy and Sucksâ„¢ thread.

There are scenarios for every team where they drafted someone and allowed a better player to get by. Wings took Primeau , passed on Jagr. It happens to the best and worst of the teams, well except for Phoenix and Toronto, they've started a tradition on allowing lots of good players get by..... I believe that Phoenix is finally going to tear away from Toronto in this regard. With Hanzal and Mueller already establishing themselves and guys like Turris, Lisin and Wheeler on the horizon, soon only the Leafs will be in the basement in regards to their horrible drafting. Out of their entire prospects list only Tlusty looks to have any star qualities about him.
up2here 41 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 With the Wings being so succesful and drafting so low they generally take the best available player. Would that have been Mike Green? Probably. 2004 was not a particularly deep draft not many big names taken after Green.
