Wings Fan Marketing getting better.

So first off i would like to say I have better be so happy to be at a game they lost so badly. My reason for this was because, for those of you who weren't at the game, they have started a lot more marketing gimmicks for during the games and I won one of them. I was the guy they "moved up" which meant they gave me seats right behind the glass in these nice padded and cup holder friendly seats next to the zamboni entrance. All I had to do was fill out some paper with my name and info then they asked what kind of car I drive. They also asked for my cell number and not 10 minutes later they called and let me know that I was one of the winners. They let you bring one person down with you to watch the game and two people are picked. The other person that won was this really great older lady who had been a season ticket holder for 25 years and really knew her red wings. we let them sit on the glass for the first period and then they told us we needed to sit on the glass so we can pound the glass and fire them up a little for the 2nd and 3rd. They also interview us for the Joe Vision during one of the TV time outs. It was really something special. :w00t2:

They also hired this girl (who is really hot and really nice) to do live cuts during break with the fans. for me it’s a really cool thing because it brings the fans into a lot more than just have some words up on the Joe Vision.

They have also started doing the season ticket holder of the game (which I know has already been brought up but I am going to do it again). This is a pretty cool thing because I think they are trying to reward all the people who have stuck in for a long time. The first guy was the best so far because he had been a season ticket holder for around 50 years and he looked as excited as a kid when they gave him the signed Cheli jersey.

Last thing i noticed was that starting in February almost every other game they are giving something out to the fans when they enter. Pretty nice stuff too like travel coffee mugs, Zetta flag, etc.

Actually I thought the view from behind the net was great! And I was admiring those seats...I noticed a guy in a older allstar jersey sitting there, was that you? Anyway it's true you give up the ability to see the overall development of the game but you get a new appreciation for the speed of the skaters, the passing, the shots and the goaltender. I've basically sat all over the arena and the neat thing is you notice different things from different areas.

I guess they needed to do something to improve their marketing, but as long as the ticket prices are so high, these other gimmicks aren't going to draw people to games the way the team wants.

GMR,

Our ticket prices are not out of line with the rest of the NHL or pro-sports in general for that matter. Even the Blue Jackets and the Preds charge between 20 and 85 a seat. I was at a Generals game recently and the consessions were only marginally better than the Joe. It's expensive to go see any live sporting event and to expect drastic price cuts is unrealistic. I think the Wings management is doing a great job this year of trying to increase ticket sales in a tough economy. Now playoff tickets, well that's a different story. I expect we will see a much more reasonable increase in ticket prices if we even see one at all.

Tickets prices might be inline, but unemployment rate is way out of a line from the other states

I hope you are right about the playoffs not being raised or if so just slightly... that is a pipe dream at best... especially when the mark up was 500% during certain rounds.

Hey congrats on winning the upgrade. Just to throw my twopennorth in, I'm really not a fan of rinkside seats. Advantages - You get to see everything close up, making a different viewing experience. The noise is also really intense down there. Disadvantages - Its cold! The players smell! You can't see a damn thing when the puck is in the corner down the other end due to the glass. Players benches/Penalty Box glass also add to the distortion.

Personally when I go to watch the Sheffield Steelers I always try to sit back row of the lower tier like somebody else mentioned. Close enough to see the detail and hear the sounds, far enough away to take in the bigger picture.

Oh, and Drew Sharp has written a pretty sensible (by his own atrocious standards) article on the Redwings attendance in todays freep

I think that was a very sensible article. That Tiger ticket sales taking off puts a big dint in the economy theory. The arena, loss of long term super stars, no place to go before/after the game, concession prices... it all adds up.

Why did they want to know what kind of car you drive?? Did they have a brand preference or something?? Just wondering...

It was sponsored by Chevy so i am guessing thats why they wanted to know what I drive.

I noticed a guy in a older allstar jersey sitting there, was that you?

No that wasn't me but it sure was a sweet jersey he had on. I was the one in the Konstantinov jersey . My friend i took felt dumb because he had to come straight from work so he couldn't get all jerseyed up and sure enough we were on FSN every time they went in that zone.
