You mean, "f*** Phaneuf, cause we don't have him ? " or just plain "f*** Phaneuf" ?

f*** Phaneuf for being a pain in our ass last playoff season, I forgive him, it's his job.

PRAISE Phaneuf for coming in to the league as a Sergei Gonchar meets Scott Stevens kind of player. GOOD combo.

6.5/yr... WORTH IT.

QFT.

Phaneuf is the best yound dman in the league when you look at the the total package. He hits, he can fight, he has one of the biggest shots in the game, he plays tons of minutes and is strong as a mule, he is a pretty good passer and is strong in his own zone. Oh, all this and he's only age 22?

I remember Sutter saying he could've played in the NHL the year before he actually did, when he was like 18 or whatever. That's all the endorsement I needed to know the kid was the real deal.

Heck, anybody who willingly goes 100mph to drill Derek Boogaard and knock him on his can is a ballsy motherf***er. And the 20 goals doesn't hurt either. :)

Why on earth would Suter think he's anywhere near Phaneuf's level? Suter shouldn't even be expecting KRONWALL money let alone Phaneuf money. Suter is less offensively capable than Kronner at this point and unlike Kronwall he isn't as good in his own end as he is in the opposing end. Suter for 2m-2.5m sounds about right.

Ev, Suter getting what you say wouldn't surprise me, but to be realistic he's not worth that much.

This is the dumbest signing I have ever heard of,

ok so no not really this is probably the smartest move of the season so far.

I think this is a better signing than AO, because in a couple of years AO will be worth his 9-10 mil, but in 2-3 years this kid will be worth more than 6.5 mil.

He is as Beeryce said he is Scott Stevens meets Segei Gonchar and once Lids is out of the league (and Neids) this kid has a few Norris trophies to earn.

I may be ahead of myself but who has a better >25 all around D-man?

one of the biggest. check

he's D-man actually....

OK... there are many PP QB in this league

check

> 49 and 50 points in his first two seasons in the league, on pace for 50 again...

> a plus player...

check

> one of the most intimidating players in the league...

possibly

there's one thing you forgot to add: it's not just points and stats that

define top tier players. it has a lot to do with their playoff show. and in

this case Phaneuf has little to show. he's been very unspectacular

against the Wings last year

yes, he's 22 and has yet time to mature. and this is my point: $6.5 M

is a bold money for this guy at this moment. this relies on the assumption

he's going to be better. this is very likely to be the case, though

The jury is out with me on this too. I heard Chicago is looking for a dman. I would rather have packaged Phaneuf up for Toews and Duncan Keith.

There's no doubt Dion doesn't deserve this salary yet. Question is when (if ever) will he. If the hype is true and if salaries keep moving, who knows, maybe in 3 years everyone is saying he was a fool to sign for so little. Remember the hoopla when DiPietro signed? Now he's one of the better goalies in the league but he's earning pretty average $$.

No way Suter get's that kind of money. He's a good player, but he's not worth nearly 7 million a season. He was even a healthy scratch a couple times this season (all be it after returning from injury, but still).

Now... Shea Weber on the other hand...

Yeah, I was gonna say, I think somebody mixed up Weber and Suter, cause IMO, Weber outplayed Phaneuf last year...
