Rice 42 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Since the main concern appears to be balanced scoring from the top six, I'm betting Babcock will try the following when everyone is healthy: Filppula-Datsyuk-Cleary Samuelsson-Zetterberg-Holmstrom The Filppula-Datsyuk-Cleary line was very successful towards middle of the season. I think Babcock put them together when Zetterberg was out. The second line had a lot of success in 05-06 but oddly has not been able to reproduce that success since. Samuelsson can be interchanged with Hudler or maybe Franzen. I don't know if Franzen has enough scoring touch to be on the second line, though. I think these combinations maximize what the Wings are going to get out of guys like Filppula and Samuelsson, because they're not talented enough (yet, in Filppula's case) to create their own offense. They need Zetterberg or Datsyuk. Babcock will try these combinations in preparation for the playoffs, and ZDH will be used when the Wings need to score. Grim 5 Report post Posted February 27, 2008 with this gut-check at the deadline, Babs might as well reduce our top line's ice-time. better to give the kids a chance to break-in now rather than in the playoffs. a late injury to anyone on our top line will surely kill our chances (knock on wood).
