WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Don't Let The Puck Stop Here Baseball is still the better endgame than boxing or pro or college football, while hockey is the least desirable option of all. Now we move to the portion of the column devoted to full disclosure. I'm not a hockey guy. I'm a big believer in Olympic hockey, and acknowledge the fact that the game delivered one of two signature sports moments in American history -- the Lake Placid upset of the Soviets' Big Red Machine, right there with Jackie Robinson's debut at Ebbets Field. But I played baseball, football and basketball as a kid, not hockey, and never quite understood those who accepted NHL goonery as a necessary part of the deal. Among the four majors in American pro sports, hockey is fourth by Secretariat lengths. The NHL needs a condemned Yankee Stadium a zillion times more than a condemned Yankee Stadium needs the NHL. KDDRWINGS1 9 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 I don't think they would pick the Wings over the Bruins, why would they want the last games ever played in Yankee Stadium to be losses to the Tigers and the Wings? If their smart, they'll give the Rangers a chance to win and let them play Boston.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 No way on the Leafs, I've already voiced my opinion, but the Leaf suck, and will for about 5 years. Two BIG for Toronto. The Wings against the Rangers at Yankee Stadium would be massive. They're the two most popular American teams and it's Yankee Staduim. At the moment, you probably couldn't ask for a better match up and location for an outdoor game.
JayUp88 1 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I play around on some other website and someone posted this. It could be photoshoped for all i know but here it is. "I just thought that you would find this interesting. I know there are rumors saying that New York will host next years Outdoor Game, I now have some evidence that may prove that rumor. Recently family friends of mine took a tour of Yankees Stadium during their stay in New York and my buddy sent me some of the pictures. One of the pictures includes the field and boards looking material on the field in the shape of a rink. This would make perfect sense to plan out the schematics now since soon the Yankees will be occupying the field for most of the time and it could be too late to plan it after the Yankees season in time for the game. So here is the picture and I hope you enjoy this so-called evidence."
tiff_luvs_homer 5 Report post Posted March 13, 2008 Sounds like regardless of who plays, the Winter Classic is going to be a new thing to look forward to each year since it was such a success. I'm psyched about that
