Never_Retire_Steve 35 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 I'd like to see how much Ovechkin is going to win the Hart by this year.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 im surprised im the only one who picked the preds' coach barry trotz for the jack adams. i hate the preds as much as the next guy but in the offseason they lost forsberg, kariya, timmonen, vokoun...the list goes on! and theyre still in the thick of the playoff race. that is very impressive. on another note, everyone wrote off the coyotes and gretzky's boys are just a few points out of the playoffs. Quote from James Duthie at TSN: Barry Trotz is the runaway winner of the "Best Coach Who Won't Get A Single Vote For Coach Of The Year" Award.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Ovechkin deserves the Hart. If he wasn't on that team i really think those guys he plays with (Backstrom, sometimes Semin) would be nothing. That team would be nothing without him. He is bringing the Caps to another Level, singlehandedly getting that team in playoff contention deserves a Hart Trophy. I disagree. I would never vote for someone as MVP if their team is out of the playoffs. Well, I would never say never, but they would have to be blowing away the competition in terms of a scoring title (which he isn't) before I'd vote for them. You have to go back 50 years before you'll find someone who won the Hart without making it to the playoffs. Have a look at Iginla is 2002. Ovechkin's year could be quite similar to that. Iginla won the Richard and Art Ross, but was not awarded the Hart (his team missed the playoffs). He had 96 points, next closest was 90 points and then I don't think there was anyone else with more than 80. (at least offense has picked up a little since then). However, I do think that the NHL would love to give him the award. Crosby last year, Ovechkin this year....makes for good marketing. (I know the NHL doesn't decide who wins the awards)
