I agree, and I think there's too many self-righteous posters here, who believe that their overconfidence in their team is somehow a sign of them being right and everyone else being wrong. If anyone disagrees with them, that person gets labeled as a Ducks supporter. It's just like the Red Scare in America's history. Idiotic, irrational, and started by a few self-righteous buffoons.

You're really trying hard to convince people that it's A-OK to be catastrophically negative, and that one can be a fan even so! Bravo!

Seriously, ALL you do here is complain and down the Wings. Why bother? Overconfidence? Haha. Look, dude: we have absolutely no way to affect how the team plays beyond whether or not we support them. Overconfidence only exists if it pertains to a situation. Here, it doesn't, because what we post doesn't really have any effect on the team unless someone from the team is reading it. That you call it 'overconfidence' truly reveals how dangerous positivity amongst others seems to you. Are you sure you're mentally capable of engaging in sports viewing, or are you too afraid of disappointment to handle it?

It's exactly like the Red Scare after that war.

No wait.....nevermind. Joe McCarthy ruined peoples' lives.

This is a website.

Why don't you and Pronger get a room? (<-----see? that's a joke.)

aloha

Bingo.

Bingo.

So if I have doubts about us beating Anaheim, does that mean that I can affect the outcome of a series?

As usual, your'e being hypocrytical. And there's plenty of Wings players that I don't complain about and down, so stop overreacting to every post I make. You're starting to sound like a broken record, and so am I by responding to your aimless criticisms.

How am I being hypocritical, again?

The only thing that any of us can do to help the team, however marginally, is to support it. Anyway, what I'm calling you out on is your runaway defensive pessimism. It's clear that your only use for these boards is to indulge it.

i see where Crymson is coming from...it does seem like you complain more about the wings the you support. it does get old sometimes. and no how stupid do you think people are. we know that the way we feel will not effect a game. but we get tired of seeing people post negative in 90% of thier posts. same with a few people that like to debate in every thread...yeah its a forum and you have the right but sometimes it gets a little silly.

I'll admit that I'm pessimistic, but I don't like being accused of rooting for another team. You sound foolish when you say that, since you don't know anything about me. Just because I have doubts doesn't mean I don't still root for us whether we win or lose.

As far as I know, criticizing the team isn't against board rules, so I'll continue to post it, if that's what I feel at that moment. If you want to keep reading, that's fine, if not, put me on ignore as I'm sure many others have done.

You're not the official police around here. Stop making self-righteous posts.

You're right---I'm not the police and I don't claim to be the police. These aren't my boards. They're Matt's. I'm neither a part-owner nor an admin nor a mod. I'm just a guy who is calling you out on your behavior as concerns the team. Get it? Try responding to my comments instead of throwing out baseless accusations.

I don't think you root for another team---I just think you're a bandwagon fan who will be totally negative until the Wings win it all, at which point you'll become an uninhibited fan and give all this talk about "wow, I was wrong, this team is great!" until the next season starts. At that point, you'll go back to being negative, and if the Wings don't win the Cup again then you'll bash them to kingdom come.

Ah, but that's not bandwagoning. Bandwagon fans are those who only pay attention to the team and want them to win, when the season is going well. I'll always watch the Wings, and will always want them to win.

We have a different definition of what bandwagon fans are. Based on your definition, all Leafs fans and all Cubs fans are bandwagon fans, because they always criticize their team. Hence, your definition is unsatisfactory, since it is too broad.

You aren't very good at seeing the distinction between criticism and what you do. Criticism is constructive; it concerns what the team can do better. Generally, it goes along with some support if it's coming from a fan of a team. What you do is outright bash of the team, point fingers, and predict catastrophe on a regular basis. That's not criticism---it's you saying that the team will lose so that you won't be disappointed if they do.

I never said that I won't be disappointed that they lose, in fact all my posts should suggest otherwise. I probably put too much stock in my life on whether we win or lose, and will be devastated if the team doesn't win the Cup this year.

Making fun of hacks like Sammy, Hudler, and god rest his soul, Kopecky, is hardly the equivalent of me predicting catastrophe and always bashing players. There are many guys on this team who I've never said anything bad about. You've just decided to single me out for your own amusement, but I realize that this is a fan forum, so I you have that right.

Are you sure you aren't doctor Phil with all this preaching? :D

Anyone who knows me or see's me as a member around here knows I'm generally not a sarcastic or rude guy, but all I can say is this, you know what is just as anyone as the doomsayers threads that show up after s***ty games, theses retalitions and sarcastic threds in response. I've argued on both sides of teh fence. I love this team, yes, sometimes they need to be kicked in the ass. But these threads are every bit as silly as the other ones.

Damn straight.

I cannot stand the doom-gloomer posts, but just as annoying, maybe even more, are the people who hound others for making constructive criticism about players et al, when they show little/nothing pointing out OMG THE WINGS ARE DONE, without backing that claim up.

Both extremes need to just put a sock in it as they bring little/nothing to the conversation that is constructive.

i see both sides...it just does get old when you see the same few people that like to argue in threads every chance they get and soon as somthing bad happens the world is coming to an end

I think all of us are perfectly fine with constructive criticism. However, "the Wings suck," "we have no chance," "Holland is a moron," etc. are not constructive, nor are the numerous knee-jerk reactions that losing one game often provokes. I created this thread specifically to mock the wild generalizations and portends of catastrophe that arise upon the loss of one game by the Wings, especially a game that they have lost by more than 1-2 goals. Such comments are NOT constructive. I think you can agree with that.

Thank you, I tend to get lumped into the Homer or everything is rosie group because I defend players like Sammy, Huds, or Lilja by saying the don't suck. Then it becomes a "you think any thing Red Wings do is great." That is not true I can be as unbiased as the next, but lets look at this wings team. First in the div, conf, nhl, 3 of the top 25 players in the game. Sure not every player is going to measure up to Lids, Dats, Z, but how much can you really complain about something like PP point or minutes.

If the coach has the team winning all year, why do we scream and yell about what he is doing and who he is playing where.

Again, I have no problem if anyone wants to state an opinion and back it up, fine. What bothers me is the group of people who have become more and more abundant around here who just bash the team or the players, without offering more than their opinion for why they suck.

You are right though Crymson it is a defense mechanism, that way if the wings lose they can say I told you so, and if the wings win they can say, I rooted for them the whole time!
