WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah

A game has yet to start and y'all are whining about the refs already. God knows the people on this site are far better equipped to officiate NHL games than the people actually paid and trained to do so. :pokey:

Hey mods, why not rename this the LGW WAH Page :crybaby:

I was going to create one specifically for the playoffs, but this one will do. That way all y'all can post all your whiny cry baby comments about the officiating here and leave it out of the other threads and improve the intelligence of those discussions. :P

Hey Buck-o! It's called venting not whining! Get it right! :hehe: And BTW, McGeough still sucks I don't care what team you're rooting for!

Quick piece of advice Caly....skip the :P at the end of your post. It doesn't church it up any.

That being said, I for the most part agree with you. Fans of every team in the league think practically every ref is "out to get" their respective team. The fact of the matter is that every team gets bad calls and plenty often, but the majority of fans only recall "bad" infractions against their own team and somehow magically forget the ones that their team is awarded. The point is....yes, the Red Wings have had some bad calls against them this year (I.E. most notably the Sharks off the netting goal), but every single team in the league has just as many bad calls against them. The refs are doing the best they can within the guidelines they are given. I'd like to see anyone try and do a better unbiased job.

Lastly Caly, my comment about McCreay stands though. That guy is the best ref in the game as far as I'm concerned and its so few and far between that a poor call ever is made when he's in charge.

Thanks for the advice. There's no tongue in cheek smileys and I wanted to make sure people knew I was (somewhat) kidding.

McCready is a good ref so long as you aren't a Flames fan (oops was the my outside voice?)

WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Actually the Flames fans' fav ref to hate was McGeogh. He was honored for his 1000th game in Calgary. Wife and kids out on the ice for the presentation and everything. The crowd boo'd him the whole time. I was actually embarrassed.

Serves him right for all the glory he's cost both of our teams! Nice to see you lurking around again btw.

Cheers!

First and foremost, it is great to see you back Cal. Are you heading to any of the playoff games again?

Next, you don't seriously buy into McCreary being biased against the Flames....do you?

Sidenote: I was joking around too with my initial comment. It wasn't so much advice, just a friendly jab. D*mn these internet forums....there's just no tone. I think I'll start audio recording my thoughts/responses, upload them and post them so I'll never need to use an emoticon again. Brilliant idea!

I don't think any ref is biased against any teams per se. I have no doubt they have pre-conceived notions of players and perhaps to an extent teams that unconciously creep into their calls. If you turn and see a guy lying on the ice bleeding and Chris Simon is standing over him, you might have a different view than if its Lidstrom. Having not seen anything, you might be more apt to put your hand in the air, know what I mean?

I also think that for some teams, certain referees are better than others. A ref that calls every little tug or calls a penalty everytime a guy falls in traffic isn't going to be a favorite of a team that likes to play with an edge. A guy who likes to "let em play" and only calls the clear penalties is better for that team, but worse for one that likes to get the PP unit on the ice a lot.

Example last night in SJ. Two teams that like to play physical and a total of 5 penalties the whole night. They were all calls that had to be made. For the rest, they let them go. I know other refs would have called probably 5 times as many penalties. I think intelligent fans on both sides were probably happy with the officials. On the other hand, if either team had been playing the Wings, I think the avg Jane and Joe on this site would have been up in arms.

I will get to one game for sure. The rest depends on the Flames. <_<

but this goes to an unwritten rule that ref's fairness is perceived via the amount

of calls he gives to both sides. and if Wings play say Ducks and the penalties

are like 6-4 in favor of Wings it's not always fair because it often means the ref

whistles Wings for some dumb crap (to equalize PP opportunities and "fairness")

and lets the Ducks escape with some real crap.

admit it or not, many people see this way to frequently. I mean: the extra

forgiveness towards those team who "play on the edge" and extra eye for those

playing clean. and I honestly find it difficult to call this fairness

Good point. It can't be 50/50 everytime. Especially against the damn Ducks!

I guess you're too young to remember why he was called Don VanCouver.

that would be the very 2002 Playoffs Round 1 and Don VanCouver doing

wonders to save Burke's butt

though, other than that infamous series he haven't had a lot s***ty calls

I watched that series, don't doubt that, but, hes still better then most of them... A lot of them will swallow their whistles when it comes to dirty play against detroit

I don't buy that. Many people would point out that Lidstrom's trademark flick of the stick in a guys hands to steal the puck is a hooking penalty against most other players/teams in the league. They would tell you the Wings are a "clean" team only because the refs let them get away with things that get called on other teams. What it comes down to is that it's all in the eyes of the beholder. To me, the only impartial beholder is the referee. The rest of us are just armchair critics.
