The fact that he is a decent player, he is not a great player, but he is not worthless, like most people on here say. If you read most of the posts about him a majority of people on here act as though he is the worst player in the league, hell he isn't event he worst player on his own team. NO he is not Dats and Z, that is the point that most of us defenders are trying to make, he is not an all world player, and people need to have those expectations of him. He must be a marginal player I mean what kind of player only puts up these numbers 73gp 11g 29a 40pts 21+/- 26pims 3ppg 8ppa in 16 minutes of ice time. 5th in pts by fwd 7th in pts by skater 5th in asts 7th in +/- 5th pp a I mean s*** that is only good enough for 5th best forward (pts) on the best team in hockey, seventh best skater on the on the best team in hockey. Yeah he is a marginal player that should be playing on the fourth line or be a black ace. Hmm maybe those "wasted" shots from the point actually work and get him assists, oh but wait it doesn't matter for the same reason that Dats was "struggling" to start the year, because assists are not good enough. And before you start to credit D or Z for his points he spent most of the year bouncing around line to line with different linemates all of the time. And I can think of so many times when he is on the pp point and his sloppy play leads to a shortie by the other team, oh wait I can't even think of one. I will admit he is a marginal player the day some of these posters admit he is a great player. Because me saying a decent player is a marginal player is like them saying a suckbag is a great player. THE GUY PLAYS A ROLE ON THIS TEAM!!! Role players do their job and help the team succeed, seeing as he played a role all year and this team is the most successful team in the regular season, I would say he did his job very well. I am not saying lets vote him on the All star team, but most people on here act like the wings win in spite of him, when in actuality he helps them win. Edit: for those who don't want to read my diatribe: If sammy is marginal, this team is in deep deep trouble, because that means the team has at least 5 players that play almost every game that are worse than marginal!! All kidding aside, these playoffs are a HUGE opportunity for him (ha ha...I sound like Babs) and hope he takes advantage of it. Sammy start proving people (me kind of included) wrong. Exactly People bash him so much that it makes it SOUND like they expect him to be Dats or Z-Dawg. I never ever stated he was a allstar player, I said for the amount of money he makes, he is doing good. Sure he is not the most physical player out out there, but it really doesnt matter cause I never ever expected him to be anyway, and In the playoffs, I always find him to be at times, "rough". Sammy doesn't back down, and as long as he sticks up for himself, then its all good to me. The way people are defending him make sense, no one ever made him out to be "the s***". Its the people that bash him that make no case as of why, except that he shoots at the goalies crest too much. last time I checked, Babs tells him to shoot more. Im also sure that a Downey, or a McCarty wouldnt have scored 2 goals to get us passed the Sharks, so Im all in favor for the more scoring in playoffs. I find, We are very lucky to have a 3rd line player who scored 40 points this year.
