Agreed, and he was just terrible in the series-clinching game 6 in San Jose last season.

redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 Sammy is not a 2nd line player, but c'mon, 40pts didn't happen by accident. We know his constant shots can be frustrating at times but seriously Sammy > Drake, Helm, Downey, or Hartigan and everybody knows it.

RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 Go Sammy Go! Maybe he'll pull a Lang and do something useful in the playoffs occasionally...
dr_lobster 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 He makes bad decisions in both ends here and there, but it's not like Sammy doesn't have games where he plays well. As long as that's the case and he's not squeezing the stick, I don't mind it. I agree with what someone said about Hartigan, though. He's too indistinct to have out there in our current lineup...rather have a reserve forward with straight speed or checking ability than him, yes.
WiNgSowN 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 I'm ok with Sammy playing on that 3rd line he scores some big goals and likely won't cost us playing in the 3rd line but I think Abby should def. be in over Hartigan I don't think we should have both McCarty and Downey dressed if McCarty isn't giving us nothing then Downey is a good replacement Please please let Abs play he offers too much to leave him out of the lineup

wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 IMO I would let him rest games 1 and 2 and then play game 3.. Groins are not a injury you can rush back
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) If he's on the third line and off the PP, then hurry back (if he's 100%, that is). I really like those lines, hope we stay healthy and those stay. Edited April 9, 2008 by Z and D for the C
hallelujahlogic 1 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 What happend to his wife?... she is EPIC failing! Maybe we should introduce him to Kwame, he has some connections that may overuse sammys groin
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 Listen, I flat out hate Sammy, but this is good news. It's good to be healthy (Though, Hudler should be scratched, and probably will be after he does nothing in Game 1). But, Babcock shouldnt be dressing Hartigan, this guy brings nothing to the game, Downey should be in, or at least Abdelkader. I cant wait till we play San Jose or Anaheim, because then Downey will have to play.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 yay, Sammy!!! I've missed his booming shots, glancing off the glass when they miss the net, and scaring the goalie. j/k Love ya, Sammy, now come on back and contribute like we know you can!
UKWING 8 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 As much as Samuelsson pisses me off, I feel good about this move. The thing that gets my blood pressure going is that he is a 3rd liner who has been forced to play as a top six forward. I have no problem with Samuelsson playing as long as he is not a top-six forward and is not used on the point on the PP. You're going to be hard pressed to find a better 3rd line winger who can put up 40+ points and makes only $1.2M. Babcock is finally using Samuelsson how he should be used. word
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 9, 2008 Sammy is not a 2nd line player, but c'mon, 40pts didn't happen by accident. We know his constant shots can be frustrating at times but seriously Sammy > Drake, Helm, Downey, or Hartigan and everybody knows it. Thank goodness there are still a minute few of level-headed posters out there who are actually thinking logically here. Pretty much right on the ball with this one. Samuelsson is far from a favorite of mine but he has more overall potential to contribute, in my opinion, than the ones above. To the few posts/posters in here that want him still injured or wish injury on him, and you know who you are, you are acting like little s**ts in this thread. I'm sorry, but you are at least in this thread. You may definitely be sarcastic about the situation, but wanting somebody to stay injured or wishing injury on somebody is just low and classless, even in a joking manner. It isn't funny just because Samuelsson is a regular whipping boy on here. It isn't entertaining. It's not right. It's stupid. And for people wanting Abdlekader in a full-time role over some of these guys, can we calm down here? I like what he has brought to the table in the 2 games he has been in, but it has been 2 GAMES. If he is given the chance, great, more power to him and I look forward to seeing if/when that happens, but he has to get a lot more seasoning in to be considered a regular over whipping boys or marginal 3rd or 4th liners in here. And I will guarantee you, if something like this happens (and I'm not wishing it to happen), the second Andlekader might commit a penalty or turn the puck over leading to a goal for the opposition in the playoffs which decides a game or playoff series, some of you will be fickle turn so fast on him and want to rip his you know what's off. I know how people can get in here. Think and don't let overdramatic obnoxious posts and dislikings towards certain players cloud your judgment.
Opie 308 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 You know what is fuct, this is my first post in this thread, and I am not even going to defend Sammy in it, I don't have to, so many posters already have!!! Opie 308 Report post Posted April 10, 2008 well put. p.s. he was +21 on the season...how, I'm not sure. Because he was on the ice for 21 more goals by his team than by the other team. That is how plus minus works, you get +1 when you are on the ice for an even strength or shorthanded goal for your team and a -1 when it is the other team. I think he was just attacking Sammy there I am one of the few here, who have nothing against Sammy at all. Most here for some reason, seem to really expect this guy to be a Datsyuk or Zetterberg, which as you may know, is completly ridicolous. The guy signed for 1.4 million dollars, and he put up 40 points, not too shabby for me. He also likes to show up at playoff time, so its great to see him back! No one expects him to be Datsyuk or Zetterberg. They want him to score goals and play physical. He didnt do that this year, and thats why no one wants him. Sammy doesnt bring an element we dont already have. We have enough scoring without him, having Downey or McCarty or Abdelkader adds size and some physical play. Samuelson is not a terrible player, but the way people the defend the guy, my lord. He's a marginal hockey player, I hope you acknowledge that at least.
